anyone know about the "Virginia Valor Fathers Day Fiesta" or the "FPYC Fathers Day Tournament"

Then Southwestern Youth Association sent out a link to the schedule and it literally says "All Star Tournament". Did the people who run our rec league or the people in charge of this tournament lie to this young coach to trick him into agreeing to participate? What the h?

Are any of these teams real all star teams? My dc's team did NOT win one game all season.

We are new to the area and don't understand why the regular rec season didn't have a regular rec tournament at the end. Every other rec soccer league my kid has played in has done this.

Yes. Tell your coach to forfeit/quit and then everyone go enjoy their Father's Day weekend This is a waste of everyone's time and will be miserable for your team. Putting a team that has lost every game in the lowest rec level to play against an All Star team shows SUCH contempt for both the players on both teams and the coaches.

Contempt for rec kids is the vibe of this whole tournament.

Exactly! Boycott this trash sombrero tournament. And if you do choose to participate in this s-show then at least have the grace not to accept those racist medals.

The older boys schedule is up-Clearly delayed by not enough teams. They combined u16 (which includes 8th grade boys) with U19 (which includes seniors who just graduated) and called it "high school boys".

That sounds like a real safety issue to me. I don't think 8th grade boys should be playing against grown men.

Hs aged groupings is normal for small tournaments. U16 who are in 8th grade were just held back by their parents. Only in dc are there 15 year old 8th graders.

Don’t worry if your kid is a 15 year old 8th grader. He can probably still get into JMU.

That's nonsense. In Virginia, any fall birthday is a U16 8th grader in the correct grade.

They should have warned teams before they signed up that their 8th graders would be playing high school seniors. My November birthday kid was tiny in 8th grade. That would have been a hell no.

The FPYC tournament has enough teams to always have correct age groups (U13, U14, U16, U19 all seperate).

Everyone commenting is acting like there is a choice at this point. I'm going to assume most of you don't have rec kids. Saying don't show up just makes it so that the kids who want to play a little more soccer won't be able to, who exactly does that benefit? Is the other tournament more established and managed better sure... but the volunteer parent coaches and kids don't have any choice in the matter. The clubs make the decisions.

I have never seen a soccer tournament with "high school boys" as a category, where have you all seen this done?

No one wants their 8th grader to spend the whole summer with a broken leg or concussion either.

Its so stupid.

To the Valor people, its all just peasant-y grubby who-cares rec teams. They don't seen any difference between the worst division 2 SFL team and an All Star team. You are all just dumb dollar signs.

They got your money, they don't care if your kid's team has good competitive games or blow outs. "Its just rec!" "Its just for fun!" blah blah blah.

My kid has been on a Loudoun allstar team and a last place division 2 SFL team. The teams were about equal.

.I think CYA is an allstar team with a parent from that team posting above.

Except there is another thread that said CYA does not do a good job picking allstars. I have seen one of the teams, and could see them being competitive if the allstar team is not that good.

Its not logical that a team that can't compete against a regular CYA rec team will have a good competitive game against a CYA "All Star" team.
