Are FL admissions easier now bc liberals are avoiding the state?

I do not know about Liberals or Republicans avoiding FL. But, most high performing Asian kids avoid FL schools. So, the competition is quite light.

Just because you know one or two Asians who did not apply does not mean you are speaking for all high performing Asians. Competition is not light.

The number of Asians applying to a school does not determine whether or not its admissions will be competitive. I can't believe that I had to type the obvious.

You are welcome to your delusions.

I live in Gainesville. I see plenty of Asians around town that attend UF, UF for grad school, and UF for medical school etc.

UF is the top college in Florida.

This current cycle FSU has been giving more money than UCF (as UCF took away their highest level merit for OOS) - which suggests to some that UCF is starting to become more selective and popular; and therefore, have less of need to give out merit. UF only gives merit to less than 10% of accepted students. Of the small # of those who receive merit, the amount is very small (compared to UF and FSU). I think the normal amount is between $2k-$8k a year (but there are more rare awards that give significantly more - but again, they are very rare).

The merit award from UF was pretty good, considering how relatively cheap OOS tuition is. After the merit award (16k/year) and DC TAG (assuming we still get it), tuition is cheaper than club soccer.

Wow - congrats! You got one of the better awards for sure! My daughter got one as well (not nearly as high as yours), but after reading the Facebook boards, I saw how lucky we were to get any money at all! How much is club soccer? !

Of course, gotta pay room and board, but the entire cost would come in under 20. The tuition part of that would be around 5

Wow- what a racist comment!

A little off topic- but what is Gainesville like? UF is my kids top choice right now but waiting on Ivy Day (which will most likely be a rejection for 95% of us) before committing.

NP Why is that racist? Asians are the highest performing academic cohort of kids nowadays. Asians are not avoiding Florida, though, because it is one of the only places they can escape the DEI racism directed toward Asians.

UF and FSU have been more difficult then ever to get into this year with out of state acceptance rates being 10% and 23% respectively (despite the political climate and professors allegedly leave these schools). The schools are amazing. For example, UF is ranked 28 nationally by Usnews and #1 Public University by Wall Street Journal. Also, these schools offer excellent value where even the OOS cost is comparable to the in-state cost of attending UVA and William and Mary. So people of all political backgrounds are applying to Florida schools for the excellent education and value they provide. I have only seen data that shows that admissions to the top Florida schools are harder than ever.

What programs are strong/highly ranked at FSU and UF? Outside of the USNWR ranking, you really don't hear much about specific strengths of either of these schools.

Just from the top of my head (so the list is nowhere near comprehensive):

FSU: criminology, political science, film & animation program (difficult to get into; and must apply when applying to the college via separate application), pre-law, education, psychology, kinesiology (I think) and I know there are some others. While I heard the engineering program is okay, the one negative is that they have to share the engineering with with another university (FAMU).

UF: finance (they actually have a combined undergraduate and masters science program which is known as one of the best in the world - despite some complaints about many business classes being online - but there is more to it and not bad as it seems), engineering, comp sci, accounting, hospitality, digital arts, animal science, pre-med.

And while you didn't ask, I'm going to put UCF (University of Central Florida) in the mix as well because UF and FSU are becoming impossible for many OOS applicants to get into these days and many people are starting to pick UCF over UF or FSU for their excellent merit, honors college, engineering program (especially Aerospace), comp sci, hospitality, and animation programs. I think they have a good nursing program too and they recently built a brand new nursing school building. Also, because UCF is located in Orlando, it is much easier for student to obtain internships during the school year (and for students/family to travel in and out of). Among all 3, they offer the best quality on-campus housing, but unfortunately, most students are forced to get off-campus housing after freshman year due to housing shortage issues. Still, there is a shuttle that makes off-campus housing doable.

UF also has some of the top grad rankings in the country (for doctoral programs).

You don’t speak for all Asians.

Thanks for this post! Since you seem to know a lot about FL schools, are their notable differences in campus culture, presence of Greek life, surrounding areas? UF and UCF have huge enrollments. Do they feel overly crowded?

How do all of the pathways in to the schools and freshman living off campus impact the feel? Would the student body initially feel disconnected for a kid from oos?

Of course she can’t. But she’s making a very good educated guess.

No anyone with a brian is avoiding Florida schools.

What do you not get about NO VACCINES none zero nadda? No MMR anymore no Polio.
What do you not get about Ben Sasse?
What do you not get about professors leaving in Droves?
What do you not get about UF having to shut Shands hospital because Drs are leaving in droves? Yeah that's right there will be no medical care except for old White Florida dumbasses.
What do you not get about teaching Science or math any longer? Moron if you think the engineering, biology, chemistry, physics departments stay at florida schools.

They’ve been conservative forever. When Michigan and Pennsylvania went for Trump, did that negatively impact apps to UMichigan or Penn or CMU or Swarthmore? People flood Duke and UNCCH and Davidson. Why do you think Florida is somehow the one place people would avoid going because of its politic?

+1.

You both are idiots

Our laws have changed they will keep changing and not for the better

Rice is in Texas you want to risk your kid being there ?..

Only horrific parents dummies will be sending college aged kids who get pregnant to any red state .

This is not only about abortion you are literally idiots

I know it’s hard for you to believe but some of us raise college age kids (girls) of all whom we’re virtually certain won’t “get pregnant” while in college. You see there is something taught to some kids called basic morals.

Basic morals didn't prevent my college roomate from getting raped.
