Anonymous
What is the date range for the info? (For example, like 2018 to 2020)

1. Received letter
2. called phone number - person on the line repeats what is in the letter. works for experien.
3. called my school board member - no answer left voice mail.

That letter was awful. Jibberish about what happened.

the office worker at FCPS gave her the data by mistake.

so she stole the data. unless the fcps person handed her this data while not on fcps property, she comitted theft by leaving the premises with fcps property

News reports say that the Virginia Circuit Court Judge disagreed with PP.

If they set aside the budget for that, everyone would be furious. That's not what school administration is for, it's not what we want them to be skilled experts in.
you are wrong. As if a month or two ago, Reid’s duties includes overseeing school safety and security.

DP: I think what the PP is saying is that in their opinion that given what it takes in terms of cost and expertise for a large company (likely of a similar size or smaller than big school districts) to keep data secure in this ever changing digital age, maybe it's not very reasonable to put that as a demand for a school system that is already doing so many other things with so many people and for so many people and is required to keep track of so much private information on children.

So sure you can write it in a job description, but how feasible is it really? Clearly data leaks are happening everywhere even in the large companies where the CEOs who oversee data security are paid fortunes and can also pay the big bucks for top notch security experts.

if a mcdonald worker gives you a packet of ketchup at the counter, and you walk out of there with that ketchup packet, are your stealing it? are you committing theft by taking it out of mcdonald's store property?

Well apparently you can request your child's information and then spend 2 days at a FCPS computer pulling whatever data you want with some FCPS employees acting as your personal assistants.

If you paid for a big mac and the worker accidentally gave you 35 thousand of them, yes you would and the worker would also be fired.

well based on the investigation it pretty much says she stole data and property

the FCPS investigation states:
Key Findings of Fact

The independent investigation ultimately concluded that a unique set of circumstances led to the inadvertent disclosure. Despite preplanning for this unusual review, it appears that this incident occurred because older thumb drives containing unredacted files pulled to respond to the parent’s prior FERPA requests were unintentionally and unknowingly left within boxes accessible to the parent during her in‑person review, who copied the files and removed them from FCPS property

You should be concerned that Callie has it as she is the one posting information about OTHER CHILDREN. I don't understand anyone supporting this woman, not matter what her grievances are. Unethical behavior on her part.

Read the letter from FCPS and the law firm they hired -- she did a lot more than that without authorization. Unethical and illegal.

She not only stole data and property but she also published it. Information about other children. She needs to be sued and I hope FCPS is taking legal action against her.

Now Reid sent out a follow up email regarding this breach. Why would they give this mom Spreadsheets of data?

I’ve looked for days now and I don’t see any data on specific students. I can identify a child on one of the charts but I’m privy to that whole situation. Once FCPS gave up confidential information it became property of the receiving parent who has freedom of speech. At least we all know that FCPS has done this again. We might not like it but it’s good that you know it.

When called was told could leave my name and number and someone would call me back in 72 hours and they clarified that FCPS has 8 hour work days so call would be some time in the 9 days following call.
