This forum has to be the most toxic, obnoxious, immature forum in all off DCUM right?

I don't regularly read threads in other forums, but I poke around in others. The exchanges here on the MCPS are just the worst.

Now imagine dealing with 150 parents like the ones posting here on a daily basis. No wonder there is a teacher shortage.

How many parents actually engage with a teacher? Serious question. I never have.

Blaming parents is a popular theme for about 1% of people on here. Just like blaming teachers is a popular answer for the 1% on the other side of the spectrum.

But both are wrong.

IIRC, teacher burnout is more about workload from central office, poor pay, and inability to discipline within the classroom (all things that parents and teachers should unite on, and campaign MCPS to improve upon)

Teachers that have left don't report "angry parents" as the reason they are leaving; its just an easy way for the crazy posters on here to vilify those they disagree with

I resigned at the end of the year. Why? Parents. Mcps doesn’t do exit interviews. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

You know people teach outside of MCPS, right? And you know that exit interviews aren't the only to collect data, right?

And remember what that PP just said about this forum being toxic. Your post is the perfect example.

Sure, I'm not an expert, but neither are you. There are plenty of articles out there citing studies of teachers that have left the profession. and the primary reasons are: Pay, lack of benefits, lack of support from their employers.

The arrogance people show on this board sometimes is just astounding. Your post was basically "I left for reason A. So everyone that has left must have also left for reason A. You're an idiot"

It seems unlikely that PP was even a teacher. It sounds like they're playing that role now to support other arguments made up the thread. And if not, what exactly did parents do over the course of your career to drive you out?

Here's a snippet from one of those surveys

"90% of members say feeling burned out is a serious problem (67% very serious).
To address educator burnout, raising educator salaries receives the strongest support (96% support, 81% strongly support), followed by providing additional mental health support for students (94% support), hiring more teachers (93%), hiring more support staff (92%), and less paperwork (90%).
"

Pay raises, hiring more teachers and staff, reducing administrative burden. Those are great things that MCPS could do. Those are all things that teachers and parents could get behind and advocate for TOGETHER.

But nah, this one anonymous poster swears its angry parents.

Gimme a break

Of course. Talk to any teacher and it's salaries, non-supportive administration, busy work, class size, and classroom behavior. Parents barely register and, if so, why? What it is they're doing?

Have you seen this entire forum? It’s not difficult to understand.

I think you're missing the point. Sure, there are one or two obnoxious posters who say horrible things about teachers. But there seems to be one or two obnoxious posters who say horrible things about parents. Why?

We have the data that shows that's not one of the contributing factors to the increase in teacher resignation.

It honestly is situations like that makes you wonder if there are nefarious forces in play on DCUM trying to stoke the anger and polarization. Because as the PP showed above, the driving factors behind teacher resignation are things that almost ALL teachers and parents would agree on: more staff, less paperwork, more pay.

So create a wedge between parents and teachers?

+1. They’re foaming at the mouths.

I don’t see any foaming but I do see people rebutting the ridiculous argument that ES doesn’t involve child care, and then people being unable to make a cogent argument as to why they believe ES doesn’t necessarily have a child care component to it.

You clearly are in denial to think that parents aren’t losing it at having to take care of their kids while school is out.

My kids were in camp this summer, as were most of my kids’ friends, because the parents all work. This is something that happens every summer, and the vast majority of parents prepare for it. No one is losing it except maybe you.

You aren’t losing it because you pawned your kids off so you don’t have to be responsible for watching them.

So now you’ve resorted to returning to the 1940s where every family needed to have a SAHM. Don’t you have a better trope in your arsenal? Yes, I work and won’t be shamed for it. Deal with it.

How about giving your kids to their dad?

Do you have daughters? I hope they aren’t planning on going to college because that will be a huge waste of $$$. Do you have sons? I hope you explain to them the importance of marrying a woman who is onboard with staying at home to watch their kids instead of pawning them off.
I predict you eating your words down the road.

I predict you know nothing.
Looks like my prediction is accurate.

I work outside of home and school is not childcare. My children attend a school where they are receiving an education and not just plopped in a building full of people with your mindset that school serves as a free childcare service.

So, childcare is work at home...but then when they go to school, they transform into self-sustaining robots. Childcare is not needed or a service in the school environment. Understood. You've cleared it up.

Lol… it’s absolutely a contributing factor. Just because you’re probably a decent parent who doesn’t treat teachers like shit doesn’t mean other parents don’t. In fact, you’d be an outlier. Listen to the people who are telling you how it actually is. You continue to dismiss other peoples experiences and that is absolutely not helping.
