MIL ate my birthday chocolates

Anonymous
I wouldn't make that big of a deal of it. But, whoa, what other boundaries is she crossing? Is she snooping through your tablets and laptops, reading your email and text messages, reviewing your photos, rummaging through your bedroom drawers? Someone who is willing to open a gift package of yours wouldn't have qualms snooping. I recommend changing all your passwords and hiding everything you don't want found next time.

Op is right. Mil was way out of line.

Did OP ever say the name of the chocolate company? Help this small business out OP by naming them.

Maybe MIL did not think op needed the calaries so she sacrificed herself and ate those chocolates.

OP said they sell out every year before Christmas and she sometimes doesn’t even get her order in. Doesn’t sound like the business is hurting for orders.

Not her call to make.

It is completely Illegal to open other peoples’ packages MIL is very fortunate her DIL did not report her to authorities. It is a federal offense to open mail that does not belong to you (MIL could face up to $250,000 fine and five years in jail). Fortunately, there are laws to protect us from relatives who have boundaries.

Yes. There should not be a single entry in these 20 pages that defends MIL. What she did is wrong and gross, full stop.

Babysitting your grandchildren does not entitle you to open other people's packages or cross basic boundaries of decency.

If people wanted to give advice about how to navigate a MIL who has no boundaries, that is one thing, but anyone defending MIL has SERIOUS issues.

+1

Unbelievable that people willing to sweep this illegal and unethical conduct under the carpet: I would never a MIL who did that sit my DC.

Anonymous wrote:My MIL/FIL are staying with us for the weekend, so that DH and I can go out to dinner and stay in a hotel for my birthday for one night. This is of course very nice of them to do.

They arrived this morning while DH and I were at work. When I came home, MIL was gloating—and I mean gloating—about the fact that she received a package for us, read that it was from the specialty chocolate shop in my hometown, and “couldn’t resist helping herself to a few.” This was a birthday present sent to me by my parents, a rare taste of home. They are expensive to ship, so it’s a real treat to get them.

I am so flipping mad. I can’t believe she would open a package for me, let alone open AND EAT a birthday present FOR ME from my parents!

Nothing is free
Next time hire a babysitter.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but it’s clearly not about the candy.

You now know that she's gone through your medicine cabinet AND found the toys you and DH use behind locked doors.
