Georgetown Cupcakes: Honest Review?

Anonymous
I recently tried these, and I thought they were awful. Are these really all about the hype? Does anybody really these taste better than homemade cupcakes or cupcakes form other restaurants? It seems like it is all marketing to me.

meh... nothing special, small and overpriced IMO. I could do better with a good duncan hines mix and homemade frosting.

I. Love. Them. Wish I didn't. Would prefer to be one of the snobs who says, "They're not as good as Baked and Wired," but the truth is GtC is the best. The best. The most expensive and the best.

Only like the chocolate. The vanilla frosting is terrible.

Dry and not worth the hype.

My kids hate them. Won't eat any flavor. I think they are ok but only get cupcakes for kid events so they are not purchased by us. Kids like other cupcakes just not Gtown. Too thick and frosting too much like cream cheese no matter the flavor.

PP here - as an alternative, I prefer the cupcakes from Buzz or Red Velvet.

ehhhh. Baked and Wired choc with buttercream rocks...btw, not a food snob! just better

I've only had them once at a party. They're pretty good but frosting was too rich and they were a tad dry.

I like homemade ones better, have you ever made homemade chocolate using warm coffee? Beautifully moist, then frost with some homemade buttercream. Mmmm...and much cheaper than Georgetown.

The "snobs" are right about this one. Baked & Wired is far superior. If you're interested, I'll list the reasons . . .

And why does preferring B&W make one a snob?

I'd rather have a slice of layer cake than a cupcake any day. Cupcakes are always dry and you can't get the right balance of cake and frosting in a bite.

Oh wow, I thought I was the only one. I always see a long line outside and I tried them on various occasions but they are gross. Seriously, the worst I have ever tasted and I love junk food.

I once place an order there for a work goodbye party and they didn't deliver that day. The person we dealt with was not helpful or apologetic and it took escalating the situation both there and at my organization to get a refund. (They delivered the next day and so initially argued that we weren't entitled to a refund because we accepted the cupcakes.)

I dislike Sprinkles.

Best cupcakes in the city? Sticky fingers.

Love them, but they are VERY sweet. DH got them delivered to his office shortly after they opened, and was surprised when their show started airing that the sisters were the ones who did the delivery themselves (it wasn't a big order, maybe 2 dozen). He said they were very nice.
