Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 3

You people with the lawyer obsession are ridiculous. Even if all the lawyers are rabid partisans paid for by the DNC, doesn’t mean Ford is lying. I really think you expected her to crack under questioning and admit Soris was paying her to lie. You weren’t expecting this all to be.....possibly true.

If Feinstein is co tribute from to Ford’s legal bills, is that illegal? Presumably Brett can’t afford his legal bills either so some benefactor is paying those too.

Feinstein recommended them. Hmmmmm......

They are all good pals fighting for their agenda.

No wonder they are billing to work pro bono. They probably would have been willing to pay HER to come forward.

Should read WILLING, not billing.

They are probably billing someone - LOL. You might not be that far off!

You know what? I think Feinstein, who is worth $77 million, is paying them, and I think she should be forced to resign. I don't have any proof of it, of course, but the mere accusation should be enough to bring her down, don't you think?

I want to know what was in that envelope that Sheila Jackson Lee passed to one of Ford's lawyers:

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-09-27/what-was-envelope-rep-sheila-jackson-lee-slipped-kavanaugh-accusers-lawyer

We are told it's notes. In a sealed envelope, that resembles a card.

What envelope? Did I miss something?

There's video of the event in the above link.

Super important. FBI will get right on that. Thanks for the eagle eye.

Lee is saying it was notes to provide to women waiting outside for information who weren't being let inside. That's awful fancy note-taking

My parents, both of whom grew up poor yet had successful careers, gifted me money for the downpayment on my house. It is completely legal and is not ripping off the taxpayers. (After all, they paid taxes on that money when they earned it.) It was their money to do with what they want. Why no hostility toward people using government support programs as ripping off the taxpayer?

That’s lovely that your parents were able to help.

Do we have any proof that Kavanaugh’s parents helped, or is this just the latest excuse du jour for his unforgivable disappearing debt?

It is so common in this area that few doubt that it is not true.

Whats a better approach: be flanked by liberal lawyers or whatever, or deliver largely unvetted testimony seen by only one other. Re watch the hearings and tell me.

Guy came off as unhinged. Clinton accusations. Asserting since he wasnt caught in 1998 when Livingston was outed by Hustler somehow proves his innocence. His responses to Klobuchar and Leahy. His lying to Whitehouse and Mitchell. Et al

Clarence Thomas, who he clearly wanted to channel, was so much more composed.

The witnesses being interviewed by the FBI were agreed upon by the White House and Senate Republicans. Senate Republicans, with no input from the Democrats, drafted the witness list.

The four witnesses were Mr. Judge; Leland Keyser, a high school friend of Dr. Blasey’s whom she said attended the party but was not told of the assault; P.J. Smyth, another party guest; and Ms. Ramirez, the Yale accuser. The White House has asked that the F.B.I. share its findings after investigators complete those interviews, and at that point, Mr. Trump and his advisers would decide whether to have the accusations investigated further, the people said.

So it will be up to the WH if anyone else, beyond those 4 people, is interviewed. This is NOT an "investigation," it is a sham. And if Jeff Flake thinks this will satisfy Americans, and that this won't rip our country apart, he would be wrong.

But it’s a neighborhood where other Supreme Court justices, Yalies, journalists and other power players live. He knows what he wants and is clawing to get it. That’s not really what Supreme Court justices do - there’s not supposed to be a career path to the highest court.

FYI - we have a similar HHI and we can’t afford our $650,000 house , never mind a 1.3 million dollar house. And we have no law school debts even.

Same. We have a similar income, a $650k house, no other debt and do alright, but could certainly not afford a country club (or two) and two private school tuitions.

I've read many, many times on this forum that there are a lot of people in DC who have help from wealthy parents for home purchases. Are the Kavanaughs somehow an exception?

Well - was that parental ‘help’ reported as income and taxes paid on it? Because that’s the law.

Wrong. The donor pays the tax, if applicable. From IRS.gov
The donor is generally responsible for paying the gift tax. Under special arrangements the donee may agree to pay the tax instead. Please visit with your tax professional if you are considering this type of arrangement.

If they pay education expenses, that is exempt. Each person can gift $14k to another person, so if both parents gift him and his wife, that is $56k a year tax free. It is also common for parents to pay the country club membership, and the grandkids private school.

I know lots of people like this. They either have trusts or parents pay for everything.

Trump has clarified. The FBI has free rein.

Vast majority of people in power lie to some extent. Anyone who has been in or close to powerful positions in the public or private sector knows that. This guy is very good at it bc he is able to lie to himself. His mistake was going after one of the few jobs where the whole country watches your interview.

Rape and attempted rape is so common that few doubt he’s innocent. We’re still going to investigate. And someone should investigate his money troubles. The baseball ticket excuse doesn’t wash. And if he was goven a down payment for his house, there should be proof of that, too.

The real investigation during this week is being done by the media. If I were them I'd be looking into sexual contact with men as well as women. There is something fishy about his overt public displays of masculinity (both during the alleged incidents, and during the hearings). Actual rapists tend to operate in secret, and former classmates have already stated that he seemed to be performing more for his buddies than the women. He also got married at the age of 39, to a religious woman 10 years his junior.
