I don’t believe US soccer funds MLSN so why would they fund NWSL? It will be an option when the majority of the women’s teams can fund their own academies. I’m sure teams will be shifting around. I just don’t see the girls ECNL teams taking the risk to leave to a Ga/NWSL league. But I’m not against it. The more options the better. |
Yes I know clubs that have had to decide many boys clubs go with MLSN as it’s the superior option. MLSN should be allowed to stay birth year and let ECNL go with whatever they think is beneficial for them SY or GY. Let the free market decide what’s the best option. GA teams will definitely get better from a By stand point because some girls will definitely be losing their spots and make the switch of to GA where they still have the RAE benefit. |
That is what I am saying. MLS can afford it and nwsl cant. Full stop. So if there is an NWSL Next it will have to be subsidized by someone. Running a single Academy is probably 2-3M expense a year without much profit offset. |
NWSL league minimum is $48,500 (with food, clothing, car, and housing perdiems or equavalents) and will will increase each year up to $82,500 by 2030. MLS league minimum is $71,000 There's room for NWSL Next whenever US Soccer and NWSL want to implement. |

Now that NCAA is basically a form of professional league how long do you think it will be before top youth clubs start pushing for transfer fees from colleges?
On BOTH the boys and girls sides. |
Now do averages...........or total revenue.........or profitability........or TV deals. Minimum wage in US and Belgium basically the same. Does that mean their GDP is similar as well? Just for those curious, MLS new TV deal is 2.5B. NWSL is 240M. Ten times...........and the MLS attendance is 2X that of NWSL with half NWSL teams at 6500/game or lower. The worst attended club in MLS is still 3X the bottom half of the NWSL. Oh yeah and MLS ticket prices are significantly higher than NWSL. Not trying to hate, just doing math. I dont see 12 new NWSL Next academies at 2.5M/year (and that is probably wildly conservative due to real estate and facilities cost) any time soon. Maybe we can just get Rickets to pay for it, which she might. She certainly overpaid for the Red Stars from what I understand. |
And right on que here comes the perennial negative Nancy on women's pro academies. It's going to happen and when it does you can crawl back into your troll hole. |
Both MLSN and NWSLN could easily fund Acadmies by forcing colleges to pay transfer fees for top talent. Welcome to the real world NCAA. |
Don’t be mad at me because you can’t do math. I would love it for the good of the sport but see no path forward. So instead of ad hominem attacks why don’t you give any shred of evidence to back up your claim they could actually pull it off. I don’t see it. Change my mind. Us soccer tried it before with DA and failed so miserably and hurt so many clubs that invested in the idea that I have very faith in the. To manage a lemonade stand. |
The odds for a trapped GA player to move to ECNL are much higher than the odds for the player whom she replaces to move to GA. The replace player could still practice with the NL team, play in the RL, and showcase in the NL. |
But then would MLS and NWSL have to pay colleges for those drafted? |
I dont think women's college soccer is such a revenue generator that they have loads of unused cash sitting around to pay transfer fees but I could be wrong. Maybe we could get the big 5 leagues in Europe to all sponsor 2-3 academies in the US as their feeder. PSG/Chelsea/AC Milan could actually afford to it and they could call it marketing expense to grow the game in the US. |
It all depends on how effectively clubs can sign and represent talent and how much colleges are willing to pay to win. Somewhere in the middle is where things will happen. |
LOL |
No more draft for NWSL everyone is a free agent out of college. |
