Apparently, DCUM is unaware of the major difference between SSSAS and SJC. One is appx $53k and the other is $25k. SJC offers discounts on top of that of that and it's a major incentive in choosing one over another. Currently, SSSAS is unwilling to discount unless the applicant meets DEI. It's more likely Ince leaves SSSAS before any SJC students transfer there. |
Saint Stephens went way too woke and its has ruined the school.
Other than the girls lacrosse program, the school is a dumpster fire. |
Most of your thoughts, I tend to agree with you. I don't think starting the freshman goalie is a major reason why Prep had its worst season in the Urick era. The freshman goalie is going to be a big time player so its clear Prep is investing in him for the long haul. I was very impressed with him against in the Bullis game. The Hoyas lacked discipline all year. Too many dumb penalties, un-forced turnovers, failed clears, and zero repercussions for shooting the ball from 15+ yards out. At times Prep showed its potential with gritty performances against Taft, Don Bosco, and Good Counsel. But for the majority of the season, the Hoyas looked like a club team: zero discipline and played hero-ball. The culture on the team needs to change otherwise, expect more losses to Landon and Bullis again next Spring (I don't care if they recruit "Ty Xander's" 5-star recruit in the 26 or 27 class). Bullis and Landon graduate big 2025 classes but its clear both these programs punch above their weight and are extremely well coached. Landon and Bullis have been the best teams all year in the DC area, they have been the most consistent in the quality of their play. Both teams will have a drop-off in 2026 but have to imagine, Bellistri and McGettigan are getting phone calls from families from local privates /publics to transfer in and will find a way to get the best out of their rosters. |
Privates have smaller average class sizes, which is an advantage to certain kids. You are also less likely to experience [real] violence, which is nice! However, I'm also skeptical of "better school" claims in general. Perhaps better peers, but not necessarily better teachers. Regarding college: I attended a generic public university and then an elite "blue blood" school. Sample of 1...but I found each to offer the same quality of instruction. Network effect is the only discernable benefit between them. |
" ...The freshman goalie is going to be a big time player so its clear Prep is investing in him for the long haul. I was very impressed with him against in the Bullis game. "
Lost 6 in a row and ended the season with 3 straight losses and gave up 5 goals in the 4th. Don't be impressed. The investment isn't a good one. "At times Prep showed its potential with gritty performances against Taft, Don Bosco, and Good Counsel. " Moral |
Itâs depressing that having a âdreadfulâ high school sports season would be a reason for kids and families to full on change schools - all of these schools go through cycles now, itâs not like Landon in the 90s aka always a winner. If youâre not happy with the coaching thatâs one thing - if youâre experiencing a down year but everything else is good, that doesnât seem like a reason to go anywhere. Be a part of the evolution and experience the rise. So much sweeter than just always winning. And so much more representative of real life! |
Honestly the homophone misuse alone in your post lets the world know you donât understand a lot about education. Good Lord. |
Agree and disagree. The potential for education is definitely there, but the environment is not always there. Public schools definitely have more resources and can help outstanding students with a wide variety of accelerated programs. A top 5% kid will achieve equally or greater in a public school. They also succumb to ridiculous politics and make your kids go to class with "furries" and put gender politics into elementary school math classes. (If you don't know what furries are, google it. I didn't believe they were really allowing it until I saw it with my own eyes.) These things tend to distract from the education. Private schools (because you are paying them) are more likely to cut the excess politics out and focus on education and college prep. My household paid to get get away from the ridiculous distractions, not because we believe that math is better when there is tuition attached to it. A private school is able to get rid of problem kids when they won't behave (like a few years ago when GZ kicked out the Towson commit for his targeted racist antics). That way the kids who want to learn can do so uninterrupted by the chaos. A public school is forced to allow the kid to return and sit next to your kid in class. After tens of thousands of dollars spent, my only regret is that I did not switch them sooner. I am not being elitist, I just want an education that is a better fit for my sons. |
How many addicts leave their dealer after a bad trip? They will all be back. There were 48 kids on the bench hoping that some of them would transfer. They will all just deal with different flavors of disappointment. |
Six game losing streak and three straight losses to end the year are all due to the goalie? Does anyone else play for Prep? "Giving up five goals in the 4th" -- were these shots he should have saved? At this level, if guys get their hands free within 15 yards of the goal they're EXPECTED to score, no matter who's playing in the cage. No kid on prep but I am a goalie parent, this is ridiculous. No idea what your issue with this kid is but he played well when Prep played my son's team and I've heard other people same the same. |
SJC has a talented freshman righty attack that could make a big impact next year if he sees some growth over the summer |
Thanks SJC righty attack dad! SJC has several talented freshmen who didnât see the field this year. The crazy thing is that most of them would be first or second line players at Bullis, Landon, STA, etc. - and at least one of them came from one of those schools to not play at SJC. However as someone pointed out, SJC is less than half the cost of those schools. So itâs not as easy obviously as just transferring to one of those for that reason. Parents and kids also love to say they got an athletic scholarship to SJC / even if their child hasnât played a minute there. And might not for years! |
Thanks Mom or Dad of talented freshman righty attack |
Dude has jokes. Same joke, but more than once. |
