He was the primary driver of getting a good portion of the Hawks players from Annapolis to come to Milltary road.

The new OC this year is unproven.

Speaks underestimated the impact Garrett had on the Cadet program.

And yes I wouldn’t be surprised if a few cadets whom Garrett recruited to Military Road, especially those who live in Alexandria or Arlington follow him to St Stephens.

Apparently, DCUM is unaware of the major difference between SSSAS and SJC. One is appx $53k and the other is $25k. SJC offers discounts on top of that of that and it's a major incentive in choosing one over another. Currently, SSSAS is unwilling to discount unless the applicant meets DEI. It's more likely Ince leaves SSSAS before any SJC students transfer there.

Saint Stephens went way too woke and its has ruined the school.

Other than the girls lacrosse program, the school is a dumpster fire.

Prep alumni on a few occasions have tried to bring back Giblin and its fallen on deaf ears.

Correct. Also, the decision to start the freshman goalie over the senior was done with the backing of both the AD and the President. There's no chance that happened without their blessing. The GP alumni think they have some pull, they have none.

1. Goalie play is not the reason GP is having its worst season in over a decade. I'm not buying for a second the President of the school is involved with player personnel decisions on who starts vs who sits. The President of the school has much larger priorities to deal with then strategize for a lacrosse team.

2. GP alumni for the most part live under a rock. Not all but most of them I come across come off as arrogant and don't have much perspective on how the sport is evolving and growing. This is not the 1990's anymore and the legacy of the program is not going to attract talent to the school like it once did.

Prep has plenty of talent on its roster they just don't play well together as a team. Too much club / hero ball is on display at Prep. Several of their starters could start for Landon or Bullis or their peer schools from the WCAC (GZ or SJC or GC).

1. Starting a freshman goalie at a school like GP with the competition it plays sends a message to the rest of the team. The upperclassmen don't like it and they play differently when one of their guys is sat down. In addition, the senior was sat down in a game they were winning and hasn't seen the field since even over 6 straight losses. At any of the higher end tuition schools, you better believe the president knows exactly who is in the class and what kind of standing that family presents. The president at GP is very sharp and keenly aware of what is going on.

2. The only alumni GP and other high end schools care about are those who write a large check. You are correct in this is not the 1990's. The makeup of the school both in person and physical appearance resembles nothing of the 90's. GP just had a big fundraiser and almost every single donor was a parent and not an alum.

GP will continue to move farther away from MD as their senior leadership have all retired and relationships have aged out. Look for GP to grow more and more into a school more resembling Deerfield than GP circa 1990.

Prep is at a crossroads. Don’t see how they could mimic Deerfield who has a $500 endowment and is known internationally.

Prep has outgrown the IAC in terms of enrollment. They generally dominate the league across all sports because the school is 2x and even 3x the size of its IAC counterparts. Prep in the last 10 years has really started utilizing its boarding component for recruited athletes. Don’t believe me the #3 football recruit in the country is a boarder at Prep and they brought in a foot Chinese basketball player last summer - and don’t tell me these families are seeking a “Jesuit” school.

Academically, Prep is a phenomenal school. Academics rival STA (the top students at prep would do just fine there). College matriculation is very strong.

It still gets a good amount of its students from local parish schools (vs kids coming from public or independents) but this percentage is definitely dropping. To your point, the makeup of prep looks vastly different to what it was just 15 years ago.

You had me until “academics rival STA”. Just no. Leave that part out because it’s not true and you know it. Of course the top students at Prep and most independent schools would do well at STA. But the rigor of STA would bury the other 80% at Prep, Landon, and all the others. This is why STA will never win an IAC title in lacrosse anytime soon if ever. Top athletes who spend endless hours training, traveling, playing, and partying would rather coast to weighted gpa’s at other schools and leverage their lax or other sports to get into Princeton and the like. Can’t blame them whatsoever.

Also, Prep is nowhere near Deerfield. That was silly, whoever said that. Prep is Prep - too big for the IAC and too small for the WCAC.

For those on here who have an axe to grind against the Prep goalie, who is a freshman, he played lights out yesterday against Bullis. He kept Prep in the game as Bullis outshot the Hoyas by 2x yesterday.

I'm not buying any Mad Lax or IL hype for #5 for Prep. You can't tell me he is a top 4 player in the class of 2026 when Prep managed to only score 5 goals yesterday. He did absolutely nothing against Landon a week prior as well. All the Prep fanatics who think he is the 2nd coming of Kabari or Burns are idiots.

These Prep teams look mentally soft when you compare them to the Giblin era. Too many turnovers, not picking up the GBs. GP's squad mimics a club lax team - a bunch of individuals who care about their stat line. The culture of its team must change if you expect the Hoyas to bounce back in 2026.

Starting the freshman goalie and never turning back was a mistake. It was bad for team morale and it was bad on the field. Keeping them in the game and allowing 5 in the 4th is what a freshman will do. It's not a criticism of the kid, but it was predictable.
GP has had a myriad of problems and they were masked by Kabiri and Burns: Dr. Q collar is a nightmare, the Megill brothers coming and going right away, Coach's personal life, student disciplinary issues, potential students choosing Landon, SJC and GZ over GP (it used to be just GZ), definitely undisciplined me-first play by the leaders on the field, and probably other reasons.
Any one of these could be overcome, but the combination led to a sub .500 season.

Most of your thoughts, I tend to agree with you. I don't think starting the freshman goalie is a major reason why Prep had its worst season in the Urick era. The freshman goalie is going to be a big time player so its clear Prep is investing in him for the long haul. I was very impressed with him against in the Bullis game.

The Hoyas lacked discipline all year. Too many dumb penalties, un-forced turnovers, failed clears, and zero repercussions for shooting the ball from 15+ yards out. At times Prep showed its potential with gritty performances against Taft, Don Bosco, and Good Counsel. But for the majority of the season, the Hoyas looked like a club team: zero discipline and played hero-ball. The culture on the team needs to change otherwise, expect more losses to Landon and Bullis again next Spring (I don't care if they recruit "Ty Xander's" 5-star recruit in the 26 or 27 class).

Bullis and Landon graduate big 2025 classes but its clear both these programs punch above their weight and are extremely well coached. Landon and Bullis have been the best teams all year in the DC area, they have been the most consistent in the quality of their play. Both teams will have a drop-off in 2026 but have to imagine, Bellistri and McGettigan are getting phone calls from families from local privates /publics to transfer in and will find a way to get the best out of their rosters.

Privates have smaller average class sizes, which is an advantage to certain kids. You are also less likely to experience [real] violence, which is nice!

However, I'm also skeptical of "better school" claims in general. Perhaps better peers, but not necessarily better teachers.

Regarding college: I attended a generic public university and then an elite "blue blood" school. Sample of 1...but I found each to offer the same quality of instruction. Network effect is the only discernable benefit between them.

Lost 6 in a row and ended the season with 3 straight losses and gave up 5 goals in the 4th. Don't be impressed. The investment isn't a good one.

It’s depressing that having a ‘dreadful’ high school sports season would be a reason for kids and families to full on change schools - all of these schools go through cycles now, it’s not like Landon in the 90s aka always a winner. If you’re not happy with the coaching that’s one thing - if you’re experiencing a down year but everything else is good, that doesn’t seem like a reason to go anywhere. Be a part of the evolution and experience the rise. So much sweeter than just always winning. And so much more representative of real life!

Honestly the homophone misuse alone in your post lets the world know you don’t understand a lot about education. Good Lord.

Agree and disagree. The potential for education is definitely there, but the environment is not always there. Public schools definitely have more resources and can help outstanding students with a wide variety of accelerated programs. A top 5% kid will achieve equally or greater in a public school. They also succumb to ridiculous politics and make your kids go to class with "furries" and put gender politics into elementary school math classes. (If you don't know what furries are, google it. I didn't believe they were really allowing it until I saw it with my own eyes.) These things tend to distract from the education. Private schools (because you are paying them) are more likely to cut the excess politics out and focus on education and college prep. My household paid to get get away from the ridiculous distractions, not because we believe that math is better when there is tuition attached to it. A private school is able to get rid of problem kids when they won't behave (like a few years ago when GZ kicked out the Towson commit for his targeted racist antics). That way the kids who want to learn can do so uninterrupted by the chaos. A public school is forced to allow the kid to return and sit next to your kid in class. After tens of thousands of dollars spent, my only regret is that I did not switch them sooner. I am not being elitist, I just want an education that is a better fit for my sons.

How many addicts leave their dealer after a bad trip? They will all be back.

There were 48 kids on the bench hoping that some of them would transfer. They will all just deal with different flavors of disappointment.

Six game losing streak and three straight losses to end the year are all due to the goalie? Does anyone else play for Prep? "Giving up five goals in the 4th" -- were these shots he should have saved? At this level, if guys get their hands free within 15 yards of the goal they're EXPECTED to score, no matter who's playing in the cage.

No kid on prep but I am a goalie parent, this is ridiculous. No idea what your issue with this kid is but he played well when Prep played my son's team and I've heard other people same the same.

SJC has a talented freshman righty attack that could make a big impact next year if he sees some growth over the summer

Thanks SJC righty attack dad! SJC has several talented freshmen who didn’t see the field this year. The crazy thing is that most of them would be first or second line players at Bullis, Landon, STA, etc. - and at least one of them came from one of those schools to not play at SJC. However as someone pointed out, SJC is less than half the cost of those schools. So it’s not as easy obviously as just transferring to one of those for that reason. Parents and kids also love to say they got an athletic scholarship to SJC / even if their child hasn’t played a minute there. And might not for years!

At SSSAS over SJC?? Now that's some crazy talk

Is SJC even in the same ballpark as SSSAS?

SSSAS is closer to St Albans than SJC is to SSSAS

Dude has jokes. Same joke, but more than once.
