What or who exactly is a "cornball brother"?

Robert Parker, ESPN, called Robert Griffin III a "Cornball Brother" today because he is engaged to a white woman, might be a Republican, speaks well and wants to be judged as an athlete and not a "black" athlete.

Wondering if I am black or a "cornball brother". I fit the profile minus the plats and the bringing DC glory as the star QB for the Redskins

He is a cornball. If he was white he would be a cornball just like Tony Romo or John Beck. Conversely Tom Brady or Drew Brees is not a cornball. Who cares, irregardless of his cornball status he is an amazing athlete, but I do wish he would come to the black side of town and get his braids redone. Every time I see him they need some help.

I've never heard that term but it sounds like "Oreo" or "self-hating black person" which I have heard.

Off the bat, I'm white. But I don't understand why "speaking well" would make a black person not "black enough." Shouldn't speaking well be a good thing? Barack Obama, anyone? Cory Booker?

You are a black man, the guy speaking is a black man, the guy who objected is a black man. What do you think DCUM has to offer you on this?

Yea, maybe you should ask a majority black audience, wtf.

Guess what, OP? Most blacks vote Democratic and marry in their race. So, yes, a black Republican who is to marry a white woman is unusual. Is that really so hard for you to understand?

How so exactly? Everything I said is empirical. What's racist about it?

Oh, stop with this straw man nonsense. Also, stop reading the Drudge Report. Matt Drudge is like a little boy on the playground who strips naked and starts yelling about his penis.

Seriously, you're going to use Toure's lame insult? You realize that was linked on Drudge, is that how YOU found it?

I'm still wondering why a forum of mostly white people should be trying to help a black man interpret a conversation between other black men about being black. I would not expect you to settle a discussion among Jews about Jewishness.

And if you really need our help figuring it out, you probably ARE cornball, whatever the hell that even means.

RG III is a wingnut?

Really so espn is a conversation between black men? But let's talk about your powers and how you are able to tell who is black and who is white on anonymous forum. It may come from your observation that being Jewish = being black. Are Jews a race? Can a white person convert to a black person?

Back round of Parker

Controversies

Parker, who is African American, is not shy to discuss the racial aspects of current sports events, such as the NBA off-court dress policy, or the lack of African Americans in NFL coaching positions. He penned a much-maligned column where he called Hank Aaron a "coward" for declining to attend when Barry Bonds would break the career home run record.
In October 2008, Parker erroneously reported that Kirk Cousins, a quarterback for the Michigan State Spartans, was involved in a fight with members of the Michigan State hockey team. At the time of the fight, Cousins was at church with his parents. After being publicly reproved by head coach Mark Dantonio at his weekly news conference, Parker was suspended by The Detroit News for two weeks.[1]
On December 21, 2008, at a press conference following the Lions' 42–7 loss to the New Orleans Saints, During the Detroit Lions historic 0-16 season Rob Parker caused some controversy when he addressed a question Lions head coach Rod Marinelli about Lions defensive coordinator Joe Barry, Marinelli's son-in-law, inquiring whether Marinelli wished that his daughter had "married a better defensive coordinator."[2] The question was criticized as unprofessional and inappropriate. The next day, Parker wrote that the comment was "an attempt at humor" and not a malicious attack.[3] Parker wrote no further columns forThe Detroit News, nor did he attend any press conferences, following the incident. On January 6, 2009, The Detroit News announced that Parker had resigned from the newspaper the previous week.[4]
On December 13, 2012, on First Take, Parker questioned whether Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was really "black" after Griffin had stated at a press conference that although he was an African-American, he did not want to be defined by that alone. Parker cited Griffin having a white fiance and talk about him being a Republican (though he acknowledged having no information to support this), asking "Is he a brother, or is he a cornball brother?”[5][6] Later that day, ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys said that Parker's comments "were inappropriate and we are evaluating our next steps."[7]
