And already, his life has been permanently altered. Nice.

Nothing has happened to his life. This will all be old news in a couple of weeks and he will be on the SCOTUS.

B.S. Whether he is or isn't confirmed, his life will never be the same. Thanks in large part to people like you.

I’m sorry but so what? Statistically speaking, she’s probably telling the damn truth.

But you don't know that she is. No one knows who's telling the truth. And I certainly care about an innocent man being treated as if he's guilty. You claim to also, but of course, only if we're talking about a POC. Right?

It doesn't matter. If you have a hint of scandal = NO SUPREME COURT

He was a wild guy in high school and partied a lot. Those are the breaks.

Funny that didn't come out until so late in the process. Really funny.

or during all the years of his adult life in which no one has every come forward with anything of this nature

People - women - don't come forward with this type of allegation because they fear the very criticism and speculation Ford's allegations brought to her.

That backlash against the accuser can be as painful as the initial assault. Sure, innocent until proven guilty, but accusers have the right to come forward without being painted as angry/crazy/unstable/loose/embittered (fill in the blank) harpies who were out to ruin Brett's very fine and upstanding career. Which is exactly how conservatives have painted Ford.

Conservatives just want these women to shut up. Unless of course they are making accusations against a Democrat and then conservatives are so very concerned about women (Franken).

Then 15 year old girls should not drink beer at parties with older athletes who are heavy drinkers.

And older athletes shouldn't drink heavily or attack 15 year old girls.

You guys are ridiculous. But keep it up, it's good to see you for who you are.

While that's a quote from Matt Damon as Angry Krybaby Kavanaugh on the SNL cold open last night, it's emblematic of his temperament. This "keg is half full kind of guy" doesn't belong on a bench in robe. Which begs the question, "can't Trump find another uber conservative judge?

He can, of course. But Trump is confident about the way this one will act.

Anonymous wrote:Thank you to the previous poster. He doesn't appear to have empathy. My thoughts are that he doesn't seem to see nuance. His emails are overly doctrinal and make him come off as a jerk. Judges need empathy and nuance in order to apply facts to law and come out with equitable outcomes. He is more of a political hack than a judge. Plus he flat out lied during parts of his testimony (I'm talking about the drinking, the sex terms- no one can say with a straight face that he was telling the truth about those things). Automatic disqualification.

Only for the sentencing part in a criminal investigation, do emotions come into play. During a SC decision, one is not supposed to take into consideration that they are a 'strong Latina woman', etc. Justice is supposed to be blind and SC decisions are made based on Constitutional law. That is why there was so much flak when Roberts changed Obama's words and said "he didn't really mean tax, he meant penalty' when ruling on Obamacare.

The reason Democrats are so freaked out about a second SC appointment, and why Schumer said he would fight it from the start, is because the only way Dems have been able to get anything passed lately is using the courts.

You have a very very poor understanding of the Supreme Court and judging. There are some cases that are purely based on the law, but they are almost all statutory. The constitutional cases are the open-ended ones that require using much more than "the law," and values of empathy and fairness absolutely play a huge role.

Civics education is sorely lacking. People who don't understand how the government is supposed to work don't understand when Democracy is being eroded, when the system of checks and balances are imploding before our very eyes.

But it’s a neighborhood where other Supreme Court justices, Yalies, journalists and other power players live. He knows what he wants and is clawing to get it. That’s not really what Supreme Court justices do - there’s not supposed to be a career path to the highest court.

FYI - we have a similar HHI and we can’t afford our $650,000 house , never mind a 1.3 million dollar house. And we have no law school debts even.

Same. We have a similar income, a $650k house, no other debt and do alright, but could certainly not afford a country club (or two) and two private school tuitions.

Boo hoo. Bitter.

But I had perfect SAT scores and A’s - I DESERVE a better job and a rich mansion and vacations. Whaaaaaaaah!!!!

....but I don't deserve to be deprived of what I otherwise would have had due to a completely unsubstantiated accusation about my supposed behavior in high school nearly 40 years ago.

I could accuse your husband or boyfriend of rape and statistically speaking, I'm probably telling the damn truth....

Will you take a polygraph? Will you name others who were present at the time? Will you ask the FBI to investigate it?

If it's administrated by my lawyer's pick like her's is? Sure. Because I know its designed to make me come out clean. I can name as many people as I want, and if those people say they weren't there, like Ford's 'witnesses, I would expect the police to drop the case. But there will still be a substantial amount of people who would consider your husband poison and I would have a lot of empathy 'go fund me' money in my bank account.

Because I'm owed the Supreme Court seat. It's my destiny because I went to Yale and come from the right family and belong to the right country club. And how dare anyone challenge that?

IF it were just one rumor, maybe.

But it’s a bunch of rumors, some with some substantiation, and, most importantly, a whole big bunch of clear lies.

The lies disqualify him. The partisan vitriol does not help.

She said it was an early event so maybe the idea was to get the drinking done early so they wouldn’t wake too hungover...it’s the beginning of summer so they probably don’t realize yet how rough it is to wake up for work the next day. And perhaps most important: It’s the Thursday before the long weekend for the holiday. Fri July 2 was a quasi holiday. It’s also very easy to imagine noone remembering this event. A few drinks before a long weekend that most of them probably left town for. And before a long summer.

Ironically this calendar will probably be what does him in. It offers up a perfect timeline vizaviz the later Safeway encounter; without the calendar there would be no date to focus on.

Quote from Mark Judge's book regarding the summer of 1982 -

It was the summer before senior year, and by now, even though I wasn’t drinking every day, I was completely hooked. Going a week without getting drunk was unthinkable. I was spending between four and seven nights with the gang, either at a party or at O’Rourke’s.

They were regularly drinking on weeknights.
