ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Anonymous
And when they say school year it is strictly graduation year, not an arbitrary 8/1 date that aligns with some, but not most, graduation classes.

The discussion on this topic is everywhere- online and in person. But the posts on Reddit and TikTok are way more informative and civil than this forum. Everyone everywhere knows this is happening, it just that the BY truthers on this forum have a delusion that if they are loud enough and obnoxious enough they will prevent it from happening.

Then with all the "take it to the bank" comments.

Maybe you'll be right. If you're not it would be nice if you were hung up by your toenails for lies and deceit.

This thread started off based on rumors of people hearing whispers of what’s to come. So far they look like they’ve been telling the truth.
A wouldn't call them rumors, this was started straight from 2 ECNL podcasts. And now a 3rd ECNL podcast a few months later and now a press release from a league. So those aren't rumors but yeah, not much has been proven wrong (other than the big guess that it would have been announced by now).

I'm OK with citing the ECNL podcast and DPL link.

Everything else is not confirmed and likely made up.
I agree but when the ECNL podcast says they can do it without USSF, they feel like they have the majority, they want to do it, they said the only pushback (which could be strong) is that clubs don't want to deal with the messiness of change and it has been under discussion for close to a year, people's minds tend to run with it, I get that also.

What should give people pause is that they said that they want the change to be with most of youth soccer and they are not fond of band aid solutions like waivers or biobanding.

Should be a fun 2 months.

And I heard all of the above from a mystery website my cousin's brother told me about.

You are also being very biased here. You are taking a podcast as 100% fact.

He took it to a podcast because he knew the noise it would make (see 100+) pages here.

You don’t know US Soccers position here and what they have proposed.

You don’t know anything other than what he has said and what DPL put out
What bias? ECNL, they, did say the above, that is a fact. USSF's position while having limited authority or punitive powers doesn't matter. You are the one speculating with why ECNL went to mention this on a podcast.

No, the BY people just want official statements, not he said / she said unsubstantiated rumors.

The SY parents will believe anyone that tells them what they want to hear.

Incase anyone was wondering what was on the SOCAL questionnaire now that it’s closed I’ll share.

SOCAL Birth Year Change Questionnaire
This form is being sent to all SOCAL member clubs for input and comments on the proposed change in age groups by the US Soccer Federation.

Your answers and input are VITAL in getting our voices heard on this subject.

Please submit your answers no later than Wednesday, October 16, 2024 5pm.

Prior to the email you received yesterday from SOCAL, did you know anything about the proposed birth year changes?

Do you support the proposed change back to Aug 1 - July 31 age groups for the 2025/2026 season?

Do you support the proposed change back to Aug 1 - July 31 age groups if it isn't implemented until the 2026/2027 season?

Do you support the change back to Aug 1 - July 31 at all regardless of when it's implemented?

Do you support staying "as is" with the birth year format currently in place?

Do you believe US Soccer should be more transparent and inclusive of its membership prior to making decisions like this or do you believe it's their right to make decisions without input from membership?

Is there anything you would like communicated to US CLUB Soccer (not US Soccer) as they are the sanctioning body of SOCAL on this topic?

Why is the only "reliable" source of information coming from outside the DMV? Either the organizations in the DMV don't care or this is BS.

So this is what all the SY people are saying is proof that SOCAL is looking to move away from BY?

SOCAL league is literally asking their customers what they want to do.

SOCAL member clubs are the ones that will need to implement the change, deal with the parents, and potentially lose players that that stop playing because of it. Club owners gain nothing in the short term from the change and might gain something in the long term assuming SY brings in additional players.

The email makes it seem like SOCAL is planning to fight the change.

Agree, when I reread what was posted it could go either way.

Overall though it seems like SOCAL is getting feedback from member clubs before moving forward.

Which is the correct thing to do.

Just to clarify this is an email sent out in response to an original email the day prior which essentially said us soccer would vote in favor of the change more than likely. Based off conversations SOCAL board has had with US Club Not everyone is happy about this even the soccer league operators as this will be a real headache to navigate.

This was to get feed back so they can let US club know what directors think about this change.

SOCAL is definitely prepared to fight this change IF they get the feed back that would push for a no change out come or a fall 26/27 start date. It seems that the tentative decision has already been made by the large league operators. US club will have its final vote next week before bringing the final vote to USSF in November.

What is US Club exactly voting on given the existing USSF mandate? Are they voting on what they will do if the USSF mandate changes?

Why would SOCAL fight against its member clubs if their feedback was to not change to SY?

That doesn't make sense and sets up for a situation where clubs unhappy with the change would go somewhere else for sanctioning.

It’s not fighting against anyone. Just asking for feedback. But would push back against if the greater majority was strongly against.

Implementation. USSF has already pushed this out to governing bodies to decide and will approve the proposal agreed upon by us club and USYS.
