How many times per day do you run your dishwasher?

Just out of curiosity! On my "dish-heavy" days when I'm turning it on for the 3rd time I start feeling like I'm wasting water  I'll go first.
Size of your family? 3 - (2 adults, 1 toddler) Average times per day you run the dishwasher? 1-2, occasionally 3 if I've been cooking up a storm and/or entertaining. |

Uh, that seems like a LOT! How are you making all those dishes? Do you put pots and pans in there or something?
We are 2 adults, a preschooler and a baby and we run maybe 2x a week. |

Usually once a week, sometimes twice a week. eat all dinners at home (2 people)
I wash pots/pans by hand and only run it when it is full. |

| What the heck do you do with your dishes? Or is your dishwasher tiny? We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids, each of whom eat off real plates, use glass cups and regular utensils. We run our dishwasher about 2x per week, 3 times if we entertain. |

OP here. Yikes - I guess this is why I was curious. I don't know how old my dishwasher is, but it is on the smaller side, and not new. If I had to guess, I'd say it is at least 10+ years old (we moved into our home 2 years ago).
As for our dishes, a typical load will be breakfast glasses, Dinner dishes/glasses/silverware, cutting boards (I generally use two to prepare a meal), and lunch dishes (my son's sippy cups from daycare, his food containers, and my containers since I pack my lunch). And of course the occasional random dish or three. That packs our dishwasher to the breaking point. I'm beginning to think I need to think about getting a bigger, more efficient machine... |

once a day at most, usually every other day. 3 people, 2 work at home so eating breakfast and lunch at home many days, as well as dinner.
The only times I've run it twice in a day is if we are cooking for a big party - Thanksgiving, Holiday party, etc. |
