Very impulsive. The impulsivity seems to go hand in hand with the anger issues - she responds explosively without taking a moment to breathe/think/calm down. |
| How is she still there? I have spoke to Syphax about her and so have other parents...and this was years ago! |
Well she is obviously. And according to first hand sources of staff I know still at the school, she's again on the way to running people out of the building to avoid the anxious/toxic atmosphere. |
| One year, APS HR finally intervened and made everyone including (including her) sit through a training on how to be nice to others. |
What? What kind of training is that. And, it seems as if it hasn't worked. When was that? |
| Maybe others can chime in… 6 to 8 years ago? |
I don’t remember that exactly but I do remember this thread from around that timeframe (before VA counties were separated into different forums): https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/45/810906.page |
There was also the Concerned Parents of Oakridge from a couple of years ago. I'm telling you, I know staff there. The pattern is repeating itself of staff looking to leave. A parent at the school I know called her "hostile" |
| No wonder APS has a bullying problem. If this is tolerated by a principal, what hope is there? |
|
Sounds like it's not really tolerated, it's endemic.
Bullying problems at a school come from the lack of structures to support student social/emotional learning and from the expectations of the top. If the whole school has a discipline/bullying problem, it's not the students.... |
| How does this principal stay at one school for so long with so many complaints? Test scores always OK, so no issues? |
Not at all. I can see how you would suppose so. But no. |
I think what the previous poster meant was, that is the thinking from higher ups? The test scores are OK, so they let it all go because there are bigger fires in the county? |
Right- I get what they meant. But I mean no, the test scores aren’t all that great. But the theory that Syphax thinks there are bigger problems is a valid one. I certainly don’t have any better explanation. |

So secondhand information here.
The principal at Oakridge recently called a boy wimpy because he was upset at a playground incident. |
