Do your kids bathe every day?

THIS! Even if the kid isn't dirty or smelly, you can tell.

Not dirty, not smelly...what's your tipoff?
Genuinely curious...

For me, I have been around kids that have showered every night and others who don't. There is just a fresh look about a person, whether child or adult. I work in healthcare, I've seen my fair share of the spectrum.

no, they don't. only once per week, after their swim class, to wash the chlorine off.

No, you don’t.
You may tell between a person who hasn’t showered in days and one who regularly showered. There is no magic tip off at 24 hours. This is just illogical.

Where is the smell coming from? I am fascinated by people who feel or are in fact filthy after about 16 hours without exercise.

I'd imagine that armpits and genital/anal area would probably be pretty ripe without regular cleaning. I hope the non-daily bathers at least do a wh*res bath.

PP here. I’m not asking about imagining. Do you actually reek after one day without vigorous exercise? I don’t at all. What do you attribute the dire need to wash after one day? Are you sweating a lot? Is it hormonal? dietary? Do you not wear deodorant or wipe?I’m really trying to understand this obsession with filth because neither I nor my kids stink to high heaven by nighttime. Is it just the fear of smelling or do people actually stink after one day?

I really do smell after a day. Who knows why - probably hormonal? (I'm a healthy woman in late 30s fwiw). I've also always been a pretty sweaty person. DH on the other hand could go a lot longer before he smells and really doesn't sweat much.

As for kids - we bathe our toddler every day in the summer but less often in the winter. I definitely did not bathe every day as a kid. I remember going to sleepaway camp when I was 9 and bragging to my parents about how I'd gone a week without showering but it was OK because I swam in the lake every day... I survived and had plenty of friends.

We bathe everyday. Kids are 8 and 5. The 8 year old NEEDS it. He is starting to get that BO smell after playing outside all day. My 5 year old just loves bath time.

Our family friends do not bathe on the reg. 3-4 times a week and they have kids the same age as mine. I can SMELL them. I carpooled them to camp for the last 2 weeks and there is always at least 1 or 2 days that they get in the car and it starts to smell. BAD. also...very stinky feet and shoes. yuck.

sorry, i'm a big fan of personal hygiene and I can tell when your kids aren't regular bathers. Usually by the way they smell. I have an amazing nose.

What if they skip swim class? No reason to bathe that week?

Correction, you THINK you can tell. If they aren't dirty or stinky, it's just not logical that you can tell. Do you have super bath sensing powers that no one else has?

Insanity. I’m 42 and have not showered since Saturday night and I do not smell. I did not exercise yesterday and I wear deodorant and clean clothes. My family would tell me. You all either need to seriously evaluate your diets or chill out. I cant even imagine stinking to high heaven or, worse, imagining that I did all the time.

To each their own, but seriously it's Monday and you haven't showered since Saturday?? That's gross and I'm sorry your family has done you a disservice and not told you to shower. I hardly ever smell or sweat (unless exercising or outdoors for extended periods), but I still shower daily, use deodorant and wear clean clothes. I think it's more than just do I smell, so I need a shower. Good hygiene and overall health habits.

So this is unhealthy? I haven’t been sick in months and I’m in excellent shape. I only didn’t exercise because yesterday was busy with other stuff. So I showered this evening. That was 48 hours. Do you think I’m at risk for the flu or cancer or what?!

Everyday. They are sweaty and dirty. Why put that dirty body in a clean bed??

hmmm I know who I am not going to be running into on the trail this weekend. We are off for a backpacking trip with our 7 yo son. No shower for three days. Lots of hiking and climbing around and sleeping outdoors. DS is excited for the trip.

And no, we are not carrying baby wipes because those ounces matter man. I don't want to carry them in and out.

You honestly can't tell the difference between a 3 day camping trip and 3000 days of school where the child is sitting close to others on fabric materials, getting in enclosed spaces, etc??

You seriously think the grubby people in this thread have clean beds? They apparently don't have functioning noses. Heck, why ever wash sheets at all? Just use them until they're full of filth enough to stand on their own, then throw them out and buy new ones. Maybe they can have their annual bath then too.

Wasn't there a Shel Silverstein poem about the filthiest man alive, something like that? This thread reminds me of that.

For all the women who don’t shower daily...does this apply when you have your period?? Or do you make an exception? Because that is truly nasty and funky.

4 year old gets 3-4 baths per week, 1 year old gets 2-3.

They have exceedingly dry skin with patches of eczema, so occasions when we've bathed everyday for a stretch (even without soap) makes it worse. Their faces and hands are clean before bed.

No guilt.
