Presumably the kid's parents are adults who can handle matters related to their child, right? I can't imagine bringing either of my parents to a meeting about anything at my children's school.

And they aren't in any of the news articles or the video.

Well, that's because Grandpa is a media whore. I'm mean, who else tweets to his 400,000 followers that he's on the way to the school after another worst grader called his grandson the N word? And, of course, throws in a Trump reference.

Unbelievable how some kid cutting in line and calling someone names has caused so much drama here. This stuff happened every day when I was a kid and it didn't cause the entire community to get triggered. What are you going to when something really bad happens? I think we all know the answer.

The kids will be fine with him. My child likes him and doesn’t know enough specifics about this to have an altered view of him.

I'm glad to read this. My kids are at Mann, but we are in different grades. I wouldn't want the child to suffer the burden of his family, although I must admit (sadly) that as a parent I would have actual concern about playdates.

Choose playdates wisely.

This is an overreaction and does that entire school community a disservice. Of course it was wrong.

But now is every parent supposed to worry a tweet will publicize any transgression? How is that an appropriate response to a 6 year old? That grandfather should apologize. He can ask for the community to do more education, but this whole tweet episode seems to serve him (the grandfather) more than the grandchild or school community

How did the rumor start that a race slur was used in the first place? No source seems to contest that a reference to "my daddy's gun" was made by the offending kid, but a race word? How'd it start?

If the roles were reversed, I don't believe that most of you would see the little black kid as just an innocent 6 year old. He would probably be labeled as a threat to the entire school.

Dyson tweeted that before he ever got to the school. Beyond that, it’s a mystery.

Wouldn't the Mann staff and witnesses be in a better position to know? Did he just show up and say, "prove my grandchild's threatened assailant DIDN'T use that word!!"?

I agree that’s probably the case, although it doesn’t make it okay in either scenario.

Too bad that’s not the conversation about race and society that was focused on for this incident.

We probably WOULD be having a conversation about gun violence, if not for the unsubstantiated race slur part. Or maybe not...we probably wouldn't have even heard about the incident, if race hate had not been alleged.

Tell me this...if the slur is unsubstantiated, why is your first inclination to believe it was not said?

DP: Because it is the report of people who were there vs someone who wasn’t.

As a former teacher, I know for a fact all adults can not hear every thing said by students, especially at the chaos of lunch time.
