Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 5

An appearance of impropriety occurs when reasonable minds, with knowledge of all the relevant circumstances disclosed by a reasonable inquiry, would conclude that the judge’s honesty, integrity, impartiality, temperament, or fitness to serve as a judge is impaired. Public confidence in the judiciary is eroded by irresponsible or improper conduct by judges. A judge must avoid all impropriety and appearance of impropriety. This prohibition applies to both professional and personal conduct. A judge must expect to be the subject of constant public scrutiny and accept freely and willingly restrictions that might be viewed as burdensome by the ordinary citizen.

I have inserted this quote from the Judicial Code of Conduct (Canon 2) at least 5 or 6 times on these threads to nothing but *crickets*. Modern Republicans don't care about rules or decency any more. Our country is lost.

You hit on the crux of it. The current GOP and their supporters don't care about rules or decency, but they will twist both in service of their quest for control. And then they'll yell loudly about how it is the Democrats that are without decency.

Nope. Democrats and their supporters willingness to stand up to this nonsense is what decency demands.

I go back an forth on whether or not I want him on the court. I want a conservative on the court. I would prefer BK over the possibility of losing the seat. I also despise the dirty politics the dems played during the process. I know the Republicans do the same thing. Doesn't make it right. I also hate the way the Dems are so hypocritical about the allegations over BK but don't say a word about Ellison. I also don't appreciate the way that they are lobbying a presumption of guilt on BK.

I hope he doesn't get the vote and they nominate and push through another conservative judge. Part of me would enjoy watching crying chuck Schumer and Feinstein lose.

To the GOP/Kavanaugh supporters, do you agree or disagree with this article?

How is this all going to end? I just want to know.

As an immigrant from a third world country, I can tell you the US is moving in that direction with respect to rule of law and institutions.

Same thing with me. Was born and brought up in the largest democracy. I see all the pattern that we would end up like my country of birth, where all the good things about USA will end up being mediocre, politicians and bureaucracy will be corrupt as hell, if you are rich you will be fine, if you are poor, good luck with your life...

Maybe this is the reason for this paragraph in his letter to Ford’s lawyers........

"I urge you once again, now for the third time in writing, to turn over the therapy notes, polygraph materials, and communications with The Washington Post that Dr. Ford has relied upon as evidence. In addition to the evidence I requested in my October 2 letter, in light of recently uncovered information, please turn over records and descriptions of direct or indirect communications between Dr. Ford or her representatives and any of the following: (1) U.S. Senators or their staffs, particularly the offices of Senators Feinstein and Hirono, other than your communications with me and my staff in preparation for the September 27 hearing; (2) the alleged witnesses identified by Dr. Ford (Leland Keyser, Mark Judge, and Patrick “P.J.” Smyth); and (3) Debbie Ramirez, Julie Swetnick, or their representatives.”

Uh, you realize Kavanaugh and his people were doing this in July with Ramirez and other Yale classmates, right?

That is witness tampering by a sitting Federal Judge.

THIS

and he knew it. Just didn't care. He has sold his soul to the devil.

absolutely. just despicable

He's also confirming what everyone already knew -- they leaked the anonymous allegations to try to muddy the waters about the real, credible ones with names attached that they refused to investigate.

Hardiman would get 75+ votes for confirmation before the midterms.

If Collins is planning on running for the-election she will votes yes. If she votes no, Trump will back someone who will challenge her in the primary and she is likely to lose. If she votes no, however, it is not like the Dems are not going to put someone up against her in the general election.

She's finished either way. If she votes no, she loses the primary, If she votes yes, she loses in the general. Her safest course of action is to vote No and become an independent.

Unlike the others though, her reelection is not until 2020. People's memories arent that long.

If Democrats "said a word" about Ellison, would that change your mind on Kavanaugh?

And that is the crux of the matter! If there was still a little bit of trust remaining between Rs and Ds, they could hash out a deal to confirm a more centrist conservative. Democrats historically have not had much objections to a conservative-leaning Supreme Court. But here the nominee just pushed all of the left wing's buttons, from being suspected of being willing to protect Trump et al. from consequences of their actions to possibly enabling states to ban abortion.

I just wish there had been some overture on the Democrat side to such a deal.

It is like watching the Metamorphosis, seeing his principles replaces with bits of shell and insect blood.

And then we hear about high school and find out that actually he was a monster all along. Now the whole world has seen the disgusting putrid waste inside him. That's why literally so many groups have come out and said to not vote for him. We are left only with the Trump supporters who really do not care about anything.

That just means she's ready to vote. Doesn't indicate her opinion one way or the other.

It isn't up to the democrats to make such an overture. They have no power at all in the government right now. None.
