I was going to add I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt too.

Me too. I cannot hear this song without crying. We went to see Boyz II Men at the Birchmere a few years ago and they covered it and I even cried THEN.

Im So Lonesome I Could Die by Hank Williams. He stopped loving Her Today by George Jones is a close second

So Lonesome Hank could Cry, not Die.
Those country guys can pour it on.

Yep. He Stopped Loving Her Today has got to be one of the all-time top 3 or 5.
By the Time I Get to Phoenix is pretty bad.
Local hero Roy Clark had some family-leaving songs. I heard "Right or Left at Oak Street" when I was about 8 and just sat down and bawled. Same with "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast," even though he turned around at the end.

Yes, another one I used to bawl to. No one should ever leave an 8-year-old alone with a stereo and country records.

Great pick, probably the greatest country song of all time. George Jones was on of my dad's favorites. You just took me back to riding with him, listening to country music on the AM radio.

Elvis Presley singing "Old Shep" used to make me cry just thinking about it.
