teachers leaving Wootton?

Can Dr. Bostic do what he needs to do to get more staffing to alleviate this problem? Veteran principals often know how to work the system to their advantage.

There is no cap on class sizes. I’ve taught classes over 50! There aren’t even hard limits on how many IEPs in one class warrant a para or SpEd co-teacher.

Classes over 50 students in MCPS? That is some bs you are making up right there

The least capable kid in ninth grade, 10th grade, etc. regardless of race or ethnicity is in “honors”. There is no recommendation or prerequisite required for honors or AP. You could fail all your classes the prior year and be in an honors or AP class the next year. You could be chronically absent and they will put you in an honors or AP class. There is nowhere else to put you. “Racist” counselors had nothing to do with it. MCPS wants to avoid disparities in the data, and that’s one way to do it. Similarly, no one of any race or ethnic background fails an exam when you eliminate exams like they’ve done. Problem solved.

And don’t Honors and AP classes get weighted the same? MCPS is crazy

I taught in a neighboring county that had a cap of 36. My biggest class was 48.

So I believe it.

They haven’t eliminated on level classes in math and science. How do I know? My son is at Wootton and took regular geometry, bio, algebra 2, chemistry, physics, pre-calc and calculus.

Bostic was loved at Northwood and I can’t imagine people disliking him at Wootton unless he made enemies among those who were scared he was going to clean house and get rid of racist adults. Which I think he was sent to Wootton to do.

This is a bit of an exaggeration. He was certainly liked at Northwood especially as two of the other administrators were considered not particularly competent. But he also did many things that staff felt were completely for show and were mostly to make his own track record look good. He was known to over promise and under deliver.

+1. He is all for the appearance, but lacks the substance.

They call it honors at some schools even if it is basic and watered down.

I thought the new “honors” classes were the traditional on-level curriculum classes. That the classes were given the “honors” in title only. When I asked why in hell would you think this was a good idea….I was personally told by a staff development teacher that they specifically wanted to blend both cohorts together in order for the lower-performing to benefit from the students who perform with a higher rigor.

Not true. On level classes, honors, and AP as well as exams still exist at all mcps high schools. Pleas stop posting misinformation.

At Wootton, many courses do not have an on level option. I think only math and science have on level.

On-level class can appear on the course bulletin but doesn't exist due to lack of enrollment. Unless you are from central office, how could you be so sure? And only if you are from a central office instead of a HS parent or teacher that you are not aware of the difference between what appears on the bulletin versus what's actually being offered.

In 9th, there is only Honors English and Honors U.S. History (or AP NSL). No on grade-level option.

Even 36 students per class sounds very unusual. From what I have seen, at my kids school (not Wooton) - max class sizes are around 32-33. Many classes are smaller

English and social studies have not had on-level( or “regular”) classes for many years at Wootton. There are only honors and AP. And several of the honors sections are always co-taught or inclusion, for kids with IEP’s. Sometimes the majority of the sections are inclusion. For example, Wootton usually has three or four inclusion honors NSL Government sections and maybe two honors NSL Government sections that are not inclusion.

The only classes with 45 or 50 would usually be music or PE.
