I think they meant far left liberals They far left liberals on the FCPS school board changed the admissions policy to make it more random in an effort to achieve more "equity" |
You are denying something that is plainly obvious to even the casual observer. Denying it does the opposite of what you intend. Everybody knows that the left discriminates against Asians. No matter how well intentioned that discrimination is, it is still racial discrimination that many people find both obvious and offensive. |
They also put in an end to the rampant cheating and restored merit. |
Yes, it discriminates against Asians! Nevermind that Asians were the largest beneficiary of the selection changes and Asian enrollment at TJ is at a historic high. |
Replying your own post multiple times like it is some kind of enganging topic, when it is basically just you and you again, huh? |
DP I didn't think calkins is particularly political. I think that a lot of liberal educators were deeply disturbed by the racial achievement gap and saw that as the single most important mission for public education. So they tried anytime that promised to close that gap and while language learning was an attempt to close the achievement gap. If it worked at all it was by reducing the reading ability of white and asian kids rather than improving the reading ability of black and hispanic kids. Nowadays they avoid testing to try and make the playing field LOOK more level. But it's not. |
It was not advised by my kid’s two different math teachers, in top feeder MS. |
Of all the math classes you can accelerate, geometry is not a bad one. It's not algebra which is truly foundational to every class you take. |
I agree with the PE comment but there are some kids that can benefit from accelerated math and if you are going to TJ, then starting with at least algebra 2 is pretty important. |
Half the people posting here seem bent on keeping others down. I would take this advice with a large helping of salt. I took geometry in summer school and still managed a 4.0 in HS, but I became a math major in college. It really depends on the student and their level of interest. |
There is no racial discrimination in TJ admissions. The process is race blind. Asians students have one of the highest acceptance rates. Some groups could possibly make a case about discrimination, but it’s not Asian students. |
+1 Prior to the admissions change, less than 1% of the accepted class came from economically-disadvantaged families. In a county with 35% of kids coming from ED families that was ridiculous. The change opened opportunities for kids throughout the area, not just the wealthy feeder schools filled with families who knew how to game the system. The pay-to-play |
Let's be real...it is not race blind in the true sense because first or last names can sometimes be very revealing. |
The admissions team can’t see the student’s name. |
^ the pay-to-play model was unethical. |
