That is 100% what we are witnessing.

I am fine with you paying for it.

Aww MAGA christianity...tell us again how pro life you are...more like pro-birth.

Yep, he wants that building renamed too? Thats all this came down to? Closing USAID building at that site to build a hotel? Why isn't this surprising?

LOL, they are feckless and the GOP House and Senate members are simply abdicating their constitutional duties.

No clue where they are and here they have been. Trump president in 2019 and USA was funding global tours and workshops for hip hop dance in places like Mongolia. Next Level Mongolia https://mn.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/192/Next-Level_press-kit_MON.pdf

Marines, USAID and cotton. Flawed calculations and inexperience in agriculture. https://www.theglobalist.com/aid-and-the-afghan-cotton-saga/

Place we know of on politcians is overloading DCA and why ...

MAGA: No, Biden can't wipe away student loans. That's hella illegal unless Congress acts.

Also MAGA: If Trump declares an entire federal agency "lunatics" he can do away with it and all the funding it distributes without bothering to inform Congress, let alone requiring any action.

Not really. Many of USAID’s overseas foreign partners don’t want to be advertised in their home country as taking US money. It can be dangerous on the ground for them. USAID reps take confidential meetings with foreign government representatives; those discussions would be classified. China is always trying to undercut USAID or sabotage projects, so we need to work carefully and discreetly.

You get that foreign aid is a competition, right? We are competing with Russia and China to influence these foreign governments

Why is it a competition? So it is a foreign influence/opposition-in-other/countries funding mechanism? Are the American people really signing up for this?

You say that like it’s a bad thing. I like America First and spreading our influence, values, and democracy. I’d also rather have stable developing countries, lowering the risk of refugee and health crises.

Yes, the American people signed up for this. it was established by law by Congress and enacted via EO by President Kennedy. The U.S. - by law - is required to have a foreign aid agency.

It is a bad thing. I don’t think we should be colonizing the planet with our values and influence. That’s a white supremacist/Nazi mindset. Especially when other governments feel we are funding internal opposition within their domestic affairs. I know I don’t want other governments influencing our domestic affairs—like Russian Facebook election meddling.

GWB blew through trillions of dollars and killed hundreds of thousands spreading democracy. I thought we learned our lesson about the folly there.

Mutually beneficial, non-coercive trade sounds great. Why are health initiatives, development and refugee prevention so secretive?

Helping prevent the spread of bird flu, aids and Ebola is not "colonizing"

If it is so benign, then let the sunshine in and let ordinary citizens see what is happening.

If it is such a cornerstone of American national security, roll its functions up under DoD or State.

But the handwringing over a purported benign, cornerstone of our diplomacy, national security, and health also being treated as some kind of double secret probation top level of information security gives the APPEARANCE that perhaps something more nefarious is going on here.

You are a fool. If USAID becomes a DOD program then any charity program overseas would become a military target. Goddamn you idiots destroying our country just because you are too stupid to understand the basic realities of modern society.

Then put it under State? Did you just read past that part?

Basic realities of modern society? What exactly does that mean to you? Because the modern society you idiots in control have built isn’t working for a vast, vast number of Americans. That Fulani lure is precisely why you have the orange clown in power.

Maybe you fools could humble yourselves, acknowledge your failures and return the country’s resources and focus to helping Americans rather than helping everyone else.

Truly amazing that that 20 years later GWB’s worldview is being fully validated and embraced by the left and Democrats.

Guess what FOOL, Musk and Trump are now admitting they want to shut it down.

Will you admit that you were wrong?

When will you see what is happening clearly?

Everyone who lives also dies. There's not been a full and transparent public discussion about whether the people of the US actually owe all this money to the third world, who hates us and views us as cultural colonizers. In one lens this is humanitarian. But in another, less American lens, this is soft imperialism. There's no plan for these nations to get better or stronger. We are just paying for stasis.

But this isn't why AID is being shut down. It's being shut down because it is believed to have funneled money to revolutionary efforts in the US, including funding the prosecutions through the org Fair and Just Prosecutions, via the Tide Center.

Time to take the tin-foil hat off.

I have friends who work(ed) at USAID. You have no idea the conditions they endure advancing the US mission by helping the poorest of the poor around the world.

You know that public grants are a matter of public record, right?

Look, let FJP tell you themselves. They are funded by Tides: https://fairandjustprosecution.org/

"Fair and Just Prosecution is a fiscally-sponsored project of The Tides Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the nation's largest fiscal sponsor."

Tides is funded, in part, by USAID:

https://www.highergov.com/grant/AIDOAAA1600007/

Fair and Just Prosecutions hasn't exactly been quiet about its role in the Trump prosecutions so I don't think I need to link that.

You look through all those subgrants listed and find the one that funds "Fair and Just Prosecution." Remember to take bathroom breaks.

Yes. I found them sending $25M to the organization that helped push for and organize the prosecutions of Trump. Why was our tax money being used to fund political prosecutions? Are you okay if we have the DoD send $25M to the Federalist Society to fund the prosecutions of Biden and Clinton?

Are you seriously asking why the government prosecutes people?

Supporting global health and pro-democracy in other parts of the world makes our nation safer. Do people really not understand that?

If there was questionable spending by USAID, then that’s why we have OIGs, Congressional oversight hearings, etc. This idea that Elon Musk is capable of rooting out government waste and corruption in a matter of days by personally shutting things down is a farse. He is not a check and balance on our three-branch system of government.

One costs the government money, the other saves the government money. Plus the debt ceiling has not been extended so even money specifically authorized by Congress is on the chopping block.

Trump can demand Congress pass Elon's recommendations along with a debt ceiling increase.
