Sure

Right? No way PP expected anyone to believe this, especially at a supposedly "rigorous" private.

it's true. UVA leans heavy on VA public school output; private school students are at a disadvantage for UVA. My son's college couselor told him to apply to Ivys and not UVA because of this. He didn't listen and was deferred.

My kids was accepted from a NOVA private school....I don't think it matters. Our school sends several to UVA every year.

1500, 4.3, 10 APs (all subjects at least 1, 4 years of language), lots of community involvement/EC's.

GPA?

You would have to know the number of private school applicants and acceptances and compare that to the public school applicants/acceptances. Don’t think this information is available.

I suspect the claim that UVA is biased against private school kids comes from entitled private school parents who think their special snowflakes should be auto-admits to UVA and are big mad when they are deferred or rejected.

Most private schools are a mix of DC, VA and MD residents. It is hard to compare acceptances between public schools that are 100% in-state and private schools that are a mixture of in-state and out of state.

I have found this year to be very predictable in terms of acceptances from private and public schools in our NOVA area. No big surprises. We’ll see if EA and RD are the same way but ED round was to be expected.

My son got in
3.8 at a private
1390
5 Aps, Latin every year

Excellent! This is hopeful. Mine applied EA and has close to those stats but from public NoVa, TO, a few more Honors classes and different language courses.

1390 seems low for test score. Was DC also max rigor? Seems like the ED success at our private went to the kids who has some AP’s but not maxed out.

Not at our private.....ED went to the kids who maxed out. 10+ APs.

Here is a RoVA data point...

My rigorous prep school in RoVA is the top school in its area, and has never offered classes labeled "AP" or "Honors". Typically the smarter students will sit about 5-7 AP exams. Almost all students who take the AP exams get at least a 3, but across the graduating class AP results mostly are 4s and 5s. SAT scores are generally 1300+ for all students with lots of 1400+ and several 1500+. Almost all students are qualified VA in-state. School often sends 20-25% of students to UVa (in C'ville not Wise; matriculation not acceptances). It sends maybe 5-10 to W&M annually. Roughly 90-130 students graduate each year. No special relationships, but in-state admissions folks at most VA Publics know those students are well prepared for college. (Not going to answer any followups as I am already close to outing myself.)

I’m guessing Norfolk Academy.

That's not a data point. That a bunch of conjecture
