ABC is a random blogger? Talk about being in a state of denial https://wjla.com/amp/news/local/why-is-montgomery-countys-violent-crime-rate-twice-as-high-as-fairfax-countys |
That article is from 2019. Anyone have a current source on the issue? |
I quite like the term “poo-poo” followed by the 💩 emoji as it is punchy and to the point. Regardless, the point stands — Silver Spring is poo-poo 💩. |
| I've lived near Wheaton Mall for 30+ years. It's my go-to for everything: Giant, Target, Macy's', Costco (I miss Hechts!). well, just everything! Generations of families here. |
Me too. I love silver spring. Highly recommend it to anyone. I live in the downtown area and the walkability is amazing plus I have an easy metro commute to my job. |
| Silver Spring, while diverse with 33.5% White, 29.2% Black, 15.5% Hispanic, and 8.4% Asian residents, has higher poverty (10.5% vs. 3.4%) and crime rates (36 per 1,000 residents vs. 14 per 1,000) compared to Bethesda, which is predominantly White (74.3%). Silver Spring's median household income is significantly lower at $95,213 compared to Bethesda's $164,142. Additionally, the chances of becoming a crime victim in Silver Spring are 1 in 28, compared to 1 in 71 in Bethesda. While Silver Spring offers cultural diversity, Bethesda's economic stability, lower poverty, and crime rates make it a safer and more appealing area for many. |
Seems like AI wrote this. Regardless, of course it’s true that if you compare any two areas in the country, the richer area will probably have less crime. As indicated above, Montgomery County gets an A+ for its low crime and not everyone wants to (or can afford to) live in Bethesda, so silver spring is a great choice for many people. |
It’s a random reporter from the local ABC affiliate which is owned by Sinclair media, basically a mouthpiece for conservatives. Lots of people in this area avoid watching WJLA because it’s a propaganda outlet. |
Haha, their data is pulled from Montgomery website. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/Resources/Files/agenda/cm/2019/20191202/20191202_PS3.pdf |
Not everybody but most people who can afford to. It’s not really a choice if you can’t afford better. |
OK, that's your opinion as someone who probably doesn't know many people in Silver Spring. There are some beautiful, large houses in 20910 owned by wealthy families who love SS. I also know some people who bought their first house in Silver Spring when they weren't making much money, and now have HHI in the seven figures but chose not to move because there is no reason to. Of course, there are probably more of these people in Bethesda, but unless you have data on net worth of people in SS, you really have no way of knowing how many wealthy people are in SS. Lots of people don't flaunt it the way that people do in Bethesda, nor do they feel the need to live in a predominantly white area. |
Ok but the stats show that your 7 figure salary i escape isn't typical I would say most people with that salary wouldn't be in ss |
| You obviously havr never been to SS and have your mind set on what it is like. I’m sure you live in one of the dumpy Bethesda homes and need to rag to make yourself feel better. You probably don’t have the $$ to renovate your 70’s bathroom and are bitter about it or you are just a very miserable person. |
| Echo recommend living near downtown silver spring for walkability. Love four corners but no metro nearby. |
| Fine. Not good. |
