Where are you moving when you retire?

No red states.

Same. I absolutely love our walkable neighborhood. Everyone stays. A lot of 2nd homes or do the snowbird thing and travel a lot.

My mom and dad stayed in the DC area and were very active. Liked the city, restaurants, tons of work colleagues and lifelong friends that also are still here. Plus, the grandkids were here.

We have a rental rowhouse in the city too. I used to think we'd buy another property in an area we love--Maine, etc.---but I now prefer the idea of just traveling and doing long airbnbs in retirement.

Fantastic healthcare too---world class hospitals nearby Hopkins, Georgetown, etc. Old people sometime underestimate this.

Might change this based on where kids move and if I/we need assisted care at some point.

It’s expensive here but starting over with making all new friends is a lot to handle.

Your friends will likely move though. If you move to a 55+ community, then you'll have built-in friends. My mom did this in her 70's and has never been happier. She had tons of invitations the very first week and there are so many clubs to join.

My mom did this last year --my dad passed away 5 years ago. Very similar...AND so many of her former neighbors from the neighborhood she lived in 50 years are in the same community now. So she has longtime friends and many new ones she's met. She's active all of the time. 80.
