Spotify dropped Harry and Markle

They fancy themselves as do-gooder philanthropists yet they are shilling for a luxury brand?

And why would Dior want them? Why hire someone who is mostly ridiculed and couldn’t generate a sufficient following for a podcast?

I just don’t get it.

Perhaps Dior wants to cut off all sales in the UK where her approval ratings are even lower than they are here?

If only the clicks led to money. Then we wouldn't see so much desperate flailing and attention seeking as their next big idea fizzles out.

Indirectly it sure does. You’re keeping them in the mainstream. I don’t think they’ll have the same level success, but everyone laughed at the Kardashians at first. Then they laughed all the way to the bank. Stop giving them so much attention if you really want them to go away. Resurfaced old news about Harry and Meghan has generated 17 pages here but nobody even bothered starting a discussion on Charles’s first trouping of the colour.

H&M is a DCUM sporting event, nothing more.

Exactly. If the people hung on their every word, the ratings for the podcast wouldn't have been so terrible and they wouldn't have been canceled.

This, exactly.

Dior has Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence as faces for the brand. Women who have won awards in their field, in Meghan’s actual field, not that she was ever any good at it. Meghan doesn’t fit at all and it’s lunacy to say otherwise. I don’t think it’s happening, I think she and her fans and for-now agent are “manifesting.” Zendaya and Lupita Nyongo are at the Dior level. No one is going to see a Dior add with Markle simpering back at them, get real. I don’t think WME foresaw Markle being cast out and dissed publicly by Spotify. Should be interesting to see the spin going forward besides this never gonna happen Dior fever dream.

Dior also has Johnny Depp though. I don’t think anything Meghan has done is anything worse than anything he has done.

I think Lupita would be excellent but even though she is beautiful you basically never see someone as dark and unambiguously black as her in that type of position. It’s sad. Zendaya is already a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton.

But I don’t think it’s some position that people get for merit so it’s not crazy they would consider her.

Worst timing ever because Covid hit just as they made their big exit. Everyone was sidelined for a few years and they lost all their momentum.

The Covid timing just a reinforced how out of touch they are. Going on TV in $2k dresses to complain about how terrible their lives were. Tone deaf.

No one ever asked if she was ok, and Waity Kaity was basically Jefferson Davis in a Jenny Packham dress, okay?

I love this thread.

Lol. I think Meghan truly didn't understand that Harry didn't have much money of his own (just the inheritance from Diana) and that everything he had in the UK was provided by Charles at his whims. The book mentions Harry didn't even have a credit card. She seemed genuinely shocked that W&K's housing and living allowances were significantly higher than Harry's.

I also disagree that Harry could just go back (without Meghan.) Maybe that was true before the docuseries and book, and maybe it was true when the Queen was still alive, but he publicized some pretty damning stuff about Camilla, Will & Kate and since Charles and William now control all the money, I don't see that going well for Harry.

If they had waited till Charles became king they would have also had a much-improved standard of living. While not as lavish as Charles’ situation his 3 siblings were hardly living in council housing.

No they would not have. Charles siblings situation is nothing like Harry’s. When they married they received properties not leases on properties. Even Andrew initially had a place he owned before his Royal Lodge lease which Charles and William are actively trying to get him out of. Charles also is clearly not trying to cate for an army of cousins and grandchildren like his mother did. Plus the standard of living of the children of siblings which any future parent would be worried about is far from guaranteed for any of Charles’ nieces and nephews.

Oh, I agree. The Queen saw to it that all of her other 3 chidren received very nice family homes. Anne actually owns her home privately (it was a wedding gift from the Queen) and both of her children live on the property as well. Charles' situation was slightly different because he was not yet monarch when his children came of age/got married, but since he only had two children I'm sure it would have all sorted itself out if H&M could have just had a little patience. And Frogmore Cottage was nothing to sneeze at - its bigger than Adelaide Cottage when W&K live during the school terms.

Also, if you believe Harry's book, he and Meghan never even considered the possibility that their security would be pulled. Its kind of crazy that they thought the UK would pay for it even if they didn't live in the UK.

The Queen and Charles are nothing alike and I would not assume that Charles would do anything she did. Plus you have the added wrinkle of a stepparent. Adelaide being smaller than Frogmore when it is their fourth house is basically meaningless and there are already making moves to get rid of it in favor of Royal Lodge if they can drag Andrew out.

It makes no sense because it makes no sense. She’s unpopular outside of a small, terminally online set of lunatics. What high profile events does she attend where Dior would get increased visibility? Movie premieres? Spotify or Netflix events? Publicized charitable tours to other countries or to events other than I guess school shooting active crime scenes? That must be it… glamorous!

It’s not happening.

As (usually!) a lurker on these MM threads, trust me, the anti-MM folks, to include you, come off as the lunatics. If you looked up “lives rent free in your head,” this entire thread would be a perfect example. Weighing in with detailed scenarios and insight as if you personally know any of these people or have any clue as to what’s going on behind closed doors among the royal family. So bizarre - to a level of creepy.

This is just another example of their hypocrisy. If they wanted to raise money for charitable purposes, they could have been focusing their efforts on that over the last three years instead of spending most of their time trying to make money. Why didn’t they do a podcast highlighting different social issues or charities or people making a difference in the world? Instead, their one podcast was essentially Meghan talking over her celebrity friends about all the ways stereotypes have harmed her.

If they didn’t focus on trying to make money how will they support themselves and take care of their kids? I never quite get this complaint about them. Rich people especially always use whatever connections they have to make money.

Connections to get a legit job. Not selling out their family by airing dirty laundry to the extent they have. That's really all they've done. They aren't earning money doing respectable things, therefore don't have a lot of respect. Stop complaining and find something to be truly passionate about. Become real estate developers, venture capitalists, restauranteurs, go to law school and become lawyers to help the less fortunate, pretty much anything but what they are doing. They are taking the sleaziest route possible.

They are toxic. Why would Dior give someone who is not aspirational a boatload of money? It would harm their brand. The gravy train is over. Their next gig will be a reality TV show on Bravo.

They hired Johnny Depp.

Depp has a long tenure with Dior. And Depp is a bonafide A-list movie star.
.

Excuse you! Meghan was the star of smash hit Suits! Kate and Baldemort were totes obsessed with her story arc and Dior knows that every woman in Canada bought out her items from Reitmans! Johnny Depp only made movies and was cute for a hot minute and Harry’s hair is totally there, if you think he has a tonsure going on get your eyes checked! If you think anything bad about them it’s because you’re a royalist and also respect the Duchess!

…I think I hit most of the talking points. I eagerly await the new faces of…Dior. I’m sure the September issues of all still in print fashion mags will be ever so slightly delayed in order to replace all of the 20something models with the most beautiful and compassionate woman currently alive. Ari Emmanuel totally thanks HIS lucky stars for the glory of getting to rep Meghan (and Harry). It’s all happening!

Smash hit? I lost interest after the first season and didn’t even remember her when the Tig came out. When they started dating, I had to be reminded who she was again. That’s why celebrities name their kids crazy things. I know who Rumor and Apple are without needing to think twice. She was a b-list celebrity when she met him, an a-lister when she got married, and now her star appears to be falling fast. We’ll see if your predictions about September come true or not.

She wasn’t bad. She wasn’t Octavia Spencer, Meryl Streep, et al., but she wasn’t bad. Solid b-list. Much better than you or me.

Give as in sign over the deed, or give a long term lease? They generally give leases so the monarch keeps everything in a tax shelter situation, and so they can revoke the lease when anyone steps out of line (Andrew).
