What do you *REALLY* think of Atheists?

Anybody can go to the top of this exchange and read where an atheist wrote “God is a man made story …. Sorry.” That is the Fact, and anybody can see it. And that’s why pp asked why atheists always go straight to bashing religion. That you try to pretend this never happened is just one more example of dishonestly from an atheist. And then you wonder why some of you have such a bad rep. |

I agree. Not all atheists here are hate trolling and aggressively defensive and patronizing, and not all gish gallop through threads deflecting and derailing. But there are two, maybe more, atheists here who hate troll 24/7, basically all the time. They absolutely drown out the thoughtful, respectful atheists. It’s understandable that they color, negatively, the perception of DCUM’s atheists. |

DP here. But that poster believes god is a man made story. His opinion is “bashing religion”? Then I guess everyone who disagrees with you is “bashing religion”. Fine have it your way. We will politely “bash” away with our opinions, since they are not given the respect granted yours. |

You’re deliberately missing the point, or you’re trolling. This is a thread about what people think about religion, but you came on to ignore the thread topic and try to start an argument about religion itself. Pp simply points out that this is so typical of atheist behavior. And please, there’s nothing “polite” about hijacking a thread to dismiss religion. And your victim ploy (“our opinions are not given the respect yours are”) is ridiculous. You really can’t see how your behavior here colors the perception of DCUM’s many thoughtful and respectful atheists, in fact of all atheists. You owe them an apology, too. |

DP - no , I do not see how one atheist's behavior here colors the perception of other atheists. It's a silly and even childish theory, that the actions of one person affect the perception of everyone who holds similar views. Do politically active, right-wing evangelicals represent all Christians? Of course not. And no one thinks they do. Such people certainly could be said to make Christians look bad, but people also know that all Christians are not hateful like that. |

dp, agree with this. They have to be quite miserable to center their lives around this forum. Guarantee they spend more time thinking and discussing religion and God than religious people do. |

In fact right-wing evangelicals DO color how people think about all Christians. You can’t pretend that’s not true. You even see it on a daily basis here when somebody posts something like on this thread on 5/4 @ 16:18. Let me condense for you: “Many of you devoutly religious folks on here would secretly love to implement religious laws. It’s pretty clear…. I mean let’s be real, many of you actually like Russian society because of its reliance on a strongman dictator who shields himself with the Russian Orthodox Church and bashes gay people. You love it. So a stupid thread asking the indoctrinated how they feel about atheists is just a weird post seeking validation for unreal beliefs. Grow up.” The moderator actually called this post out for ferocity in his daily recap. You have no self-awareness, or you simply don’t want to admit to yourself. Namely, your 24/7 hate-trolling, lies and misrepresentations about convos here, gish galloping and derailments into your favorite topics like Catholic priests (also got a nod in this thread about atheism) … are making ALL atheists look bad. Many of you devoutly religious folks on here would secretly love to implement religious laws. It’s pretty clear. I mean you won’t outright say it, but you frighten me. You see the Pew studies. You see declining attendance at church. So you have all these scary efforts to double down and you’ve got your zealot state government officials pushing increasingly unpopular policy trying to stop things from “changing”. I mean let’s be real, many of you actually like Russian society because of its reliance on a strongman dictator who shields himself with the Russian Orthodox Church and bashes gay people. You love it. So a stupid thread asking the indoctrinated how they feel about atheists is just a weird post seeking validation for unreal beliefs. Grow up. We all understand why OP is wondering if her FIL thinks the same hateful things a minority of believers think. I think OP's answer is that there are several perceptions of atheists - some negative, some positive; some adamant, some neutral; some baiting, some simple; some well informed, some ill-informed. Thus, people's views are similar to views on other subjects -- all over the place. OP, what do you think? |
