The Great Reset

That’s me that you quoted and I posted that before The council posted details about the passport. I’m still against them but I am at least relieved to hear that it wouldn’t be pulling vaccine information from an to a database.

However, the burden on the business is to check and verify if a picture or vaccine card is legitimate is still too much

If the council so desperately wants five-year-olds to be vaccinated then it should be a requirement for them at schools. Don’t place that burden on private businesses. They should be willing to enforce that at the county level which would be MCPS. But they won’t because they wanna pass the burden of responsibility to private individuals.
I hope they also realize how heavily this would impact minorities and if someone upthread pointed out it is very Jim crow like and this has never sat well with me.
But I’m feeling hopeful that it won’t be passed at all since our rates are dropping and they continue to postpone the vote. If they end up canceling this altogether it will be a good move for them

I will not comply.

Arrest me.

Vaccine passport is closing the barn door after the horse has fled - and then setting said barn on fire.

Fully vaccinated people can and do spread the virus to others, both vaxxed and unvaxxed. So what is the point of a vaccine passport except to invade people's privacy?

They cannot require 5-year olds to be vaccinated because the vaccine isn’t even fully FDA approved yet. I would imagine parents (already angry at the school closures) would lose their minds - rightfully so!

No good reason for otherwise healthy 5 year-olds to be vaccinated. And even less good reason to mandate it.

EXACTLY so why are they requiring 5 and ups to be vaccinated by March as part of the vaccine passport program?

MoCo delayed the vote on the mandate.

In other words, they are trying to back out without loosing their face. Good.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has called in to support this. I can't imagine many.

Exactly this. Thank you.

Works for me. I don’t care if they want to save face. Delay the vote until the end of the pandemic. If it means no vaccine passport, I’m happy.

I can't believe it, but it feels like we finally found the limit to what the people of MoCo will tolerate.

The public response has been OVERWHELMINGLY against this idea.

And now the idiots on the council and Elrich are trying to spin this, as if they weren't 100% behind the idea a few weeks ago

Why?
We are the most pro-vax county (have highest vax rates) in the country. Tons of places already have vax passports--CA, Washington state, Colorado, NYC, etc. Why would we not want to make it easy to zip in and out of places that choose to verify vax status?

This doesn't mean business have to require vaccinations--it's just a way to make it easier if they want to. I am already patronizing places in MoCo that check vax status (ranging from Strathmore to Jose Andres restaurants to Marjorie Merriwather Post). Most places don't. Vax passports don't force businesses to start requiring vaccines, they just make it more efficient for those that do.

Every time the idea comes up, it disappears soon after. I see this would be for restaurants and other places where people are maskless. Do you want to be the business owner vax scanner a police officer who wants to patronize your business but who may or may not be vaxxed? If you are a council member, do you really want to alienate the union trades and professions who may or may not have unvaccinated members? Not. Gonna. Happen.

Kudos to MoCo for doing this the right way: Through its legislature. Elrich would have imposed the passport unilaterally if they'd have let him.

Conversely, here in D.C, the Council is content to let Bowser decree What Is and Is Not. Now we're the only local jurisdiction with a vaccine passport requirement. We'll see how long it lasts.
