I think this will be mostly relevant after this wave begins its decline (which based on the South African example will hopefully be in a month or so) at which point, "vaccinated" will mean 3 shots. I suspect that the data will show that while people with 3 shots can still spread the virus they do so at a lower rate than vaccinated folks. It will be even more relevant after an Omicron booster is available (estimated March 2022). Speaking for myself, I'd feel better about going out to a restaurant etc where there's a vax mandate not only out of concern for myself (I'm younger and low risk) but out of concern for people I might spread the virus to. I want to balance my desire to eat out with my desire not to be harming public health. Some people are behaving stupidly or stubbornly by refusing to get vaccinated, no question--but I don't want them to die for their poor choice. So I don't want to contribute in spreading the virus to them. |
Why is it impossible here politically when it was possible in places with lower vax rates, like those listed above? |
**typo. meant to say: I suspect that the data will show that while people with 3 shots can still spread the virus they do so at a lower rate than UNVACCINATED folks. It will be even more relevant after an Omicron booster is available (estimated March 2022). |
I hope you’re right. I am vaccinated but ABHOR the idea of a vaccine mandate. 100%. It’s disgusting. |
| I won’t support any business that enforces this terrible form of discrimination |
I am 99% sure you're being facetious, but hard to tell these days. |
And I cancel you out because we actively avoid places with the stupid vax mandate! We skipped a show at Olney Theater because of it. I’m sure they don’t care much either way. And I’m vaccinated. But the vax mandate makes me pretty mad for some reason. |
| with 85% vaccinated in MoCo, it’s pretty much just babies 0-5 who will not be able to get a passport. Do we really need vaccine passports to identify who is not a baby? |
It is what it is, to use a trite phrase. |
It is quite literally discrimination based on medical history. Separating society into two classes has historically proven a really, really bad idea and I won’t support it. |
This one would be for 12+. Supposedly it's because we have so many international and out of town visitors here. So it's to protect people who are already vaccinated, many of them boosted, too.....Wait a minute.... |
| so interesting that they keep concentrating “on places where you sit for an hour without a mask”. My kid is in middle school, they have assigned seating this year. He sits with 7 others, all are vaccinated. All are positive except for my son. My son was the last one to get vaccinated so his vaccine is more recent (he turned 12 August 31). We know that every child at the table is vaccinated because we know the families, the kids chose the seats. So I don’t think this vaccine passport will help stopping the spread in restaurants. It’s one anecdote of course, but still…more likely the passports are designed to force people into vaccination. |
This. And it's just another way to hurt businesses. Let them police their own business the way they want. |
Y'all are confusing two things. Your argument is against the vax mandate DC has announced. This thread is about a vax passport that allows business or other entities (doctor's offices, private schools, employers, whatever) that want or need to check vax status to do so easily--and decreases chance of faked cards. IT'S NOT ABOUT A MANDATE. go to the other thread for that. |
No, it isn't discrimination based on medical history (and the suggestion that it is is frankly offensive to people who actually are disabled or have medical histories that can leave them subject to discrimination). It's discrimination based on a choice. And guess what? Society wouldn't function without that kind of discrimination. We "discriminate" against people who don't educate their kids, or pay taxes, or drive drunk, or do 10 million other things. |
