| How crazy is it to run a marathon if you haven't trained? On a whim, my DH bought a bib from someone who got injured and can't run the marine corps marathon. How much of a disaster is this going to be? |
| He's just not going to make it very far running. If he's in excellent shape, he will be better off, but it's really something you have to train for. If he's in decent shape and he's okay walking he will be fine, just will take a while. |
| He will destroy his joints if he does not stop in time. |
what? thats not true. if he can run 20 miles without stopping, then he should be able to make it the next 6 after that |
| how much does he run now/recently? |
| How old is he? Less likely to make it or without a lot of recovery time if he is older. |
| OP here. He is 30 years old. The farthest he has ever run is 8 miles. He hasn't been running that much lately. |
| when I was a dancer a company member decided to run a marathon on a whim. she had never run more than 3 miles. she finished and could barely walk for 2 weeks. but, she was in exquisite shape and was 22. |
This is a bad idea OP. Bad bad idea... |
| 30 is on the old side to be able to recover quickly without adequate training. He might be able to walk much of it but it will take a bit of recover just from that. |
+1 Super bad idea. A knee or ankle could go. If he insists on doing it, be sure he's drinking gatorade or a sports drink, not water, along the way so he doesn't get water poisoning. (flushing out too much sodium). |
| Yikes, not the best idea. And not a way to build confidence for training. |
| What's his typical running pace? He will need to make it to mile 20(the 14th street bridge) by 1:05 to "beat the bridge". That's a 14 min/mile pace. I am an experienced runner and have done the MCM twice. Marathons hurt, a lot. If he wants to do this, he should take it very, very slowly, enjoy the scenery, atmosphere and the crowds. I don't think it's a good idea though. |
| It is a horrible idea. Horribly stupid, too. |
