WATCH LIVE AT NOON: Police to update public on their investigation into D.C. quadruple homicide |
Thanks for saying; same here. |
I remember something similar from college about confronting rapists; the idea was to make the encounter as unpleasant and horrible for the attacker as possible even if you can't possibly "overpower" a larger, stronger assailant. Criminals count on compliant victims. Scream. Yell. Flail. Fight dirty; gouge eyeballs, knee groins, punch to the throat; if you manage to get your hands on pepper spray, but your attack grabs you in a bear hug, spray it anyway: pepper spray irritates sweaty areas like groins and armpits and it could deter the attacker even if you don't get his face. It also creates a noxious "cloud" that will make him want to leave the area. The point is to resist the rapist. Even if you submit, there is no guarantee he won't kill you anyway (as he killed the whole family in this case). |

So why then, if this is so random,
Is Lanier & the DC police dept not warning people to be vigilant? That peeves me...we don't know if he acted alone or not. |
| 'Are'. Anyone know how to edit? |
+1000 And those who jumped to those conclusions are DC's brightest, wealthiest citizens?! (shuddering at the thought) Unbelievable. |
|
Give me a break, Chief Lanier is awesome. I think the DCPD is doing a great job. The update is coming soon. Give it 50 minutes. Geez.
I'm sick of all the racist accusations. What happened here is horrible, regardless of the race of the perps, and people's awareness should be heightened by anyone at this point. |
No. I think it is just an acknowledgement that people of all races are disgusted by this heinous act. |
| WTOP just reported that suspect worked for one of SS's companies. |
Right. Plus, I'm sure he was raised by a loving, married mom and dad who took him to church regularly and raised him to be a good citizen. |
They are not warning people to be vigilant because you are not at any increased risk due to this crime. While this was a horrifying, terrifying crime, we are not experiencing a wave of violent hostage crimes. Whether it's completely random crime of opportunity, or the family in question was somehow targeted, it's a freakish event that we see the likes of only a few times in our lifetimes. Of course the police are urging the public to come forward with any evidence and to be on the lookout for the suspect, which is entirely appropriate. |

11:10, take a chill pill. My post crossed the other

I'm wondering this too. I mean I doubt he was stupid enough to hang out in the area but clearly this POS' thought processes are impossible to understand/predict. Shouldn't people be on the alert? I know I can't sleep at night. |
