Yes, I get that wearing jeans and sneakers at all is not hip or fashion-forward. But it's what I like, so I try to at least look decent and not too frumpy while doing it. My fall "playground uniform" is usually a long-sleeve T or sweater, nice/flattering boot-cut jeans, and cute sneakers like Pumas or similar.
This year I feel like my boot cut jeans look really dated. I also have straight leg jeans that I wear rolled up with flip-flops, but unrolled they look like weird and dorky. I also have skinny jeans that I normally wear with boots or flats, but there are times when I really prefer to wear sneakers, and regular socks -- that's important. So...is there a way for a 37-year-old size 8-10 mom to wear jeans with sneakers and still look age-appropriate and reasonably stylish/current? If so, what style of jeans and what type of sneakers should I wear? (I'm not against wearing something besides sneakers, but they need to be not boots, casual/sporty, extremely comfortable, and I need to be able to wear regular socks. It seems like sneakers are the only thing that fits the bill but I'm open to suggestions.) Thanks so much for any suggestions! |
| I have been wearing j crew matchstick jeans with converse. |

Why not boots? I like converse - they are very cute.
But I also wear something like this... http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/etienne-aigner-shoes-carlton-booties?ID=726116&CategoryID=25122&swatchColor=Banana bread#fn=BOOT_HEIGHT%3DAnkle%26COLOR%3DBrown%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D171%26ruleId%3D68%26slotId%3D8 I can climb and run in these also. http://www.zappos.com/j-41-barrington-black?utm_source=shopstyle |
| I think you can wear skinny jeans with Pumas or other cute sneakers, like New Balance. |
| Puma flats - all the comfort of sneakers, but they look like cute flats. |
| Converse. Just get them dirty first. |
| I wear mine with cute clogs. |
|
I wear mine with Sperrys. They feel like sneakers but have a nice sporty look to them and about 100 styles to choose from.
also, flats have come a long way baby. some are really comfortable. add a trouser sock and suddenly, your dressed up..abit. |
Ohh! We can add that to the list of oxymorons along with: Dark light Living dead Guest host military intelligence |
| Wedge sneakers are to be worn with skinnies. Isabel Marant made them very popular but they are $1K+. Google some pics so you can see what they look like. Then find them in less expensive lines. Make sure you balance the proportions up top with something bigger. |
| How about Vans OP? |
| Supergas. For the Euro vibe. |

How about Converse?
They are on trend and work for running around. I'm not in love with this oufit, but I think you get the idea: http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&hl=en&biw=1178&bih=489&tbm=isch&tbnid=yCAAxZp5my3IsM:&imgrefurl=http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/gallery/0,,20202521_20461816,00.html&docid=yYwFelEFyehVGM&imgurl=http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2008/stylewatch/hitormiss/080609/ashlee_simpson.jpg&w=200&h=400&ei=WrtlUIP4K8Xf0gHW14GoCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=262&vpy=56&dur=4828&hovh=318&hovw=159&tx=78&ty=204&sig=103468757323725743491&page=1&tbnh=121&tbnw=61&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0,i:171 |

Try a pair of rail runners instead of sneakers - just as comfy, but generally a little heavier looking / tend to be more earth tones fuss white.
I'm a fan of these as they work with my feet - been wearing them for years (on pair # 4 or 5) and have done everything from trips to the playground to vacations to Europe to long distance backpacking in them. http://www.vasque.com/womens-trail-running-shoes |
