Ukrainian victory over Russia is inevitable

Time to face reality.
I think we can all agree that both sides are suffering pretty big losses. There are no major gains on either side.
The conflict will probably go on at the intensity it has now, for another few years.
I guess Ukrainians don’t want peace talks to avoid recognizing the status quo in any shape or form. They are hoping for a breakthrough that will change it.
I think the only two opportunities for a breakthrough are: death of Putin and/or Russia slowly bleeding out economically. It will take a few years for either.

That's Russian propaganda. Don't be fooled.

There is and always was corruption.
Just like in any post Soviet country.
Emphasizing it is propaganda but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s there.

This wasn't talking about general corruption, it was making a specific accusation, which doesn't seem to be corroborated by any other reliable source.

Zelenskyy has already jailed numerous people for corruption and trying to profiteer off of this war. Have yet to see Putin do the same with all of his corrupt oligarchs, many of whom are off partying overseas far from Russia as this war rages.

😂 remember when fools like Tom Nichols, Michael McFaul and David betrayus were saying that this is gonna be super easy?

We laughed at Russians during the invasion

Time to laugh in equal measure

Ukraine needs to either get air superiority or surrender.

Which begs the question. Are there situations where terrorism (and that’s what the bridge attack essentially is) is justified?
I think Ukraine has been doing extremely well in the PR war so far. Yet this is something that might (or might not?) harm their image of an innocent victim of a brutal attack of a big bad wolf. Or is anything that hurts the bad guy justified?

This was not terrorism. Russia invaded Ukraine. The Kerch bridge is used by Russia to supply its occupying troops in Crimea. It is very much a legitimate military target. Have you said a word about the thousands of Ukrainian civilians that Russia has deliberately murdered?

I thought we already agreed Russia is a bad, bad guy.
I am more interested in Ukrainian tactic. I have a feeling the world will agree with you. It’s ok to kill civilians if they are from the bad bad country.

Nobody (or at least very few) is saying it's okay to kill civilians. I feel terrible for this girl. I feel terrible for all the kids that have been impacted by Putin's ego/idiocy. But this isn't terrorism. The bridge is a legitimate military target that Ukraine should continue to pound. Russia shouldn't be encouraging its citizens to vacation in a war zone.

My goal is not to argue or counter what you said; I am just interested in how this is painted to the world and perceived by an average US person. I know now.

DP. I saw reported yesterday that the Russian government was encouraging Russians to vacation in Crimea this summer, Putin thinking they would serve as a human shield/deterrent to Ukrainian attacks.

You cannot possibly belittle the level of cheerleading that was happening for the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the spring. It was all like variations of "look out , big bad Vlad, here comes counteroffensive with most excellent modern precise weaponry and they will take out your low-moraled, WW2-era, obsolete ineffective equipment and you will be crushed!" Literally not a single word of that was true.

I've said that before on this very thread. The coverage of this war is pure propaganda that is easily discernible even to an under-educated eye. Consider these two very present themes:

1. The Russian military is hanging by a thread, they are conscripting prisoners, they are fighting badly, morale is low, the country is in discontent, they are fighting with their bare hands, they are running out of everything!

and

2. We need billions kazillions for the most modern powerful weaponry NATO can find or else Russians will be in Kyiv today and scaling La Tour Eiffel tomorrow!

Literally these two things cannot be true at the same time. Even an idiot can see that. Yet you have our very able commentariat shamelessly mention them in the same breath. Like, how?

And now summer in full swing and there is little to show for it. Honestly, it would have been better if this counteroffensive hasn't been talked up that much. It would have been less embarrassing.

Unless we see something significant by September, prepare for another ten years of stalemate.

I can't see Putin withdrawing fully any time soon with NATO now essentially saying yes to Ukraine.

Ukraine is making progress, but they are being very strategic about it and are making cautious tactical choices. They continue to make numerous surgical strikes taking out Russian artillery (where Russia has one of its few remaining advantages) along with strikes to take out command and leadership, and to demoralize Russia. They are doing a great job with that.

But if you think all this should be going faster or want them to go charging full tilt with all their armor and infantry "LEEEEEEROY JENKINS" style into fields littered with thousands of Russian mines then you're either uninformed or foolish.

This is magical thinking.

It’s come out that Danilov’s daughter just bought a seven million euro place in Cannes.

And since we don’t have audits, why not?

I pretty seriously doubt anyone ever said with a straight face that a few dozen Abrams and Bradleys would somehow completely crush the entire Russian front. That's straight-up bizarre fiction. Come on, be realistic and stick to serious and credible opinions and leave your nonsense out of this forum.

You're repeating what some sketchy Serb tweeted? I've seen absolutely nothing from any credible source to back that claim up.

I've seen no evidence of Ukraine mounting Russian style human-wave attacks to give them commensurate losses to what Russia had at Bakhmut, Vuhledar et cetera. Ukraine's strategies throughout have been asymmetrically attritional to drive a lot of losses on the Russian side.

MSM told you counter offensive would punch right through. Only Serbs dare to tell the truth.

Are you aware that more than 8 million people have left Ukraine in 2022?

As for the rest - time will tell.

But more than 4 million have returned since then and more continue to return.

Ukraine is taking losses too, and not much by way of gain. I mean you can praise their strategies all day long but what are their results?

You cannot in all seriousness deny how much the "spring counteroffensive" was hyped. It was positively gleeful.
