What kind of pig do you have to be to do this? How arrogant to think you aren't actually littering! I always want to lay on my horn or do something else because it pisses me off so badly.
-- I know someone's going to say how terrible it is that this makes me angry but it is, in fact, littering. AND what makes it worse is people think it is justified and they are jerks! |
| Right on, OP. |
| completely agree. no one would consider if ok to throw trash out the window (say a napkin or whatever) but smokers seem to think it is ok to throw BURNING trash (the cigarette butt) out! |
| I hate it too, but aren't the butts biodegradable? |
| I hate it too--especially when it actually hits my car. But what is the alternative? Ashtray in your car? Does every smoker just throw it out the window? |
Why in the world would you think that? And while they "biodegrade" are they god's gift to the rest of us? |
|
Do you think that the people who do this should go to jail for it, though? Because I have a friend who got thrown in jail for a weekend for doing this while watching people who were in court for drunk driving get a pass.
This was in Fairfax County. The judge apparently is notorious for throwing out drunk driving charges, but my friend's lawyer never in a million years thought he would actually hand down a jail sentence on a littering charge. |
Yes...ashtray in the car. And then the smokers can empty their ashtrays into the trash whenever they get somewhere with a trash can (or whenever it gets full). Some smokers appropriate dispose of their butts, but a LOT of smokers litter. And no, the butts are NOT biodegradable. The filters in particular are usually not and will last a long time. Some of them end up like this: but most of them just end up washed into the sewage system and then end up polluting the water system. |
| Last year, I was driving in the West while the wildfires were going on. It was after dark, and the entire horizon to the left of the highway was ablaze. And the asshole in front of me threw a burning butt out his window. |
|
I agree!! Deal with your butts. Nobody wants your butt flying out the window.
Even worse, when we had the unsually dry weather and a brush fire warning or whatever it's called I saw someone throw a lit cigarette out the window near a gas station. IDIOT!!!!! |
This just makes me sad. |
| They can't stand their own smoke so they roll the window down and tap their ashes out onto the street too. Nothing annoys me more while I am stuck in traffic. |
|
I completely agree.
It's a disgusting habit, and if you have to do it, take responsibility for your trash. It is simply anti-social behavior. I walk along Mass Ave a lot and have to walk through all the crap lazy, selfish people throw out of their cars. I'm glad the cops are busting them. |
|
I really hate this too! And yes, it's bad for the environment! Grrr, this parrticularly makes me so ticked!
"[Cigarette butts] also present a threat to wildlife. Cigarette filters have been found in the stomachs of fish, birds, whales and other marine creatures who mistake them for food ... Composed of cellulose acetate, a form of plastic, cigarette butts can persist in the environment as long as other forms of plastic." --Clean Virginia Waterways http://www.cigarettelitter.org/index.asp?pagename=facts |
I know, right? When I'm done with my food wrappers and drink from McDonald's I just throw it out the window. What is the alternative? Keep it in my car until I can get to a trash can? That's crazy talk. |
