Genuinely curious -- why to Republicans lie?

Anonymous
Why bother making up all this crazy stuff -- Michelle and the flag, the booing of God, not to mention Obama's a secret Muslim etc. etc.?

I really don't get it.

There are legitimate reasons to be opposed to an Obama administration -- maybe you are pro-life, or don't believe in regulation i.e. very pro-business, or are a foreign policy hawk, or extremely pro-Israel.

Why not attack the Democratic party and Obama on the merits? There are plenty of issues about which to have genuine disagreements.

Why do Republicans seem to get so swept up in, and waste so much time and energy, creating and the circulating these conspiracy theories and ridiculous ad-hominem attacks?

The cynic in me says the leadership does not have faith in regular voters to pay attention to, or to care about, the real issues, but knows they will be riled up with sensational stories of anti-American antics and vote their emotions.

Why do Democrats lie and say Republicans are for the rich and Democrats are for the poor?

Why did Obama lie and promise not to raise middle class taxes, yet:

1) Democrats tried to undo the Bush tax cuts (which would raise everbodys' taxes unless you are around the poverty level), and

2) Obamacare instituted a new "tax" (per the supreme court) on people who cannot afford to buy healthcare or otherwise don't have it - and they still won't have insurance?

Why did Obama claim to come up with the idea of the plug on the BP oil spill with his team of scientists?

OP here.

That does not seem like an intelligent response.

There is a genuine debate over which party better represents the interests of poor people. It is a matter of opinion, not fact, ergo Dems are not lying when they say Republicans "are for the rich."

But stating Obama is Muslim is a lie.
Claiming he was born in Kenya is a lie.
Circulating the idea that Michelle said "all this for a damn flag" is a lie.

Either you cannot tell the difference between opinions and facts or you are purposely playing dumb to further your agenda.

Answers like PPs show how empty of ideas the Republican party is. Instead of answering the question as asked in a rational, cogent manner backed up with some actual facts instead of some made up shit spewing, just go on the attack.

LOL remember we are blessed on this board with a few persistent repubs who, sadly, don't seem to represent the best of the Republican brain trust.

"Undo" the tax cuts? You mean let them expire the way they were designed?

2) Obamacare instituted a new "tax" (per the supreme court) on people who cannot afford to buy healthcare or otherwise don't have it - and they still won't have insurance?

Whether you think this is a tax or not is debatable (I do) but in no way can you compare broken campaign promises from a politician to the stream of outright lies and misinformation spewed by the RNC.

Why did Obama claim to come up with the idea of the plug on the BP oil spill with his team of scientists?

No idea what you are talking about.

OP here.

Is this true, Republicans? Is the best defense a good offense? Can no one answer the question with intellectual honesty i.e. without turning the tables and accusing right back?

Darn, I thought this was going to be a thread written in way Yoda speaks. On, you carry.

OP, there are plenty of people from my hometown, including some of my extended family, who believe all those Republican lies you spoke of...Obama is a Muslim, wasn't born in the U.S., doesn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge/national anthem...I see evidence of it every day by the garbage they repost on Facebook. The GOP has to have simple lies circulating out there for the less-educated voters, those who are not intelligent enough to be able to understand about budget deficits, the healthcare bill, and other real topics.

There are no Muslims in the town where I'm from, or where many people are from, and since 9-11, that word has (unfairly) come to mean 'murderer' to many people. The GOP plays on that and makes it simple for the simple folk...they think, "Ok, Obama must be a Muslim since all of these people on t.v. say it's true, so that makes him bad and secretly plotting against America -- no way will I vote for him."

I'll add that a lot of these same people are only voting for Romney because he is NOT Obama, and would not vote for Romney, due to his religion (which they also don't understand), if another candidate was running.

No, IT IS A LIE - Republicans are NOT "for the rich." OMG this is so completely absurd! It's as ridiculous as discussion of Obama's dog eating (which is factual mind you).

You shit in our sundae during our convention, we will throw it right back.

I'm a Republican. I've said none of the things that you listed. I know lots of Republicans...with one exception, I've heard none of them say any of the things you listed. This is an anonymous message board run by someone who is a fierce Democrat, it doesn't attract a lot of reasonable Republicans. It does attract a lot of trolls.

What would you say if a bold faced, pathological liar (like Obama) asked you why you are a liar?

This thread is nonsensical. What is the point? Oh, wait, I know the responses you are looking for. Here, allow me (meanwhile, you might prefer to just post your garbage on FB where people can just click on the like button if affirmation is what you desperately need):

THIS.
