The GOP plays on that and makes it simple for the simple folk...they think, "Ok, Obama must be a Muslim since all of these people on t.v. say it's true, so that makes him bad and secretly plotting against America -- no way will I vote for him."

I'll add that a lot of these same people are only voting for Romney because he is NOT Obama, and would not vote for Romney, due to his religion (which they also don't understand), if another candidate was running.
