What Restaurent Has Been in D.C. Forever And Is Still Worth a Visit?

Martin's Tavern on Prospect St. in Geotwn. Also that great little place inside the the Georgetown Inn. Sushi-ko has gone to the dogs, but it was never that old, really. If Les Halles is still around. If you're talking Nixon era Peking Garden and Au Pied Cochon and French Market those good old fascist Henry Kissinger groaning boards are long gone.
1789 is still around if you don't mind a slightly loose stool the next day--still too rich with the sauces! Does F.Scott's still exist? Good times.

If I allowed copies of the Washingtonian in my house, which I don't, I could jog my memory from their restaurant list in the back. Frankly though, when Nathan's closed that whole era died as far as I'm concerned. The Palm is not worth it with the bland sauces. If L'Auberge Chez Francois is still around--it was always my favorite. A.V. Ristorante Italiano's was and is a hang out for Antonin Scalia--used to see him coming in at the back all the time for the garlicky grilled flounder.

Didn't A.V. close?

Is 1994 "forever" ? Probably not, but, Citronelle is worth a visit.

Sadly, I think you're right. The scene of so many romantic rendezvous for me *sigh*

Some of those named are long gone. AV??

L'Auberge chez Francois is still worth going to. And it's not so hard to get in now. I like the Tabard Inn. Otherwise not too much. Of course some of those places weren't that great to begin with. We had different tastes back then.

Does The Gaurds still sell a mighty fine piece of steak while you're seated in a high backed leather chair? If Go, go, go. Also Les Grenouilles. Patisserie Poupon still makes the best cake in DC.

Old Ebbitt, Martin's Tavern, The Occidental, 1789, and if feeling adventurous, head up to Hank Dietle's in Rockville--oldest bar in MoCo.

Nathan's was never worth going to as a restaurant. DUH.

Oceaniare? Jaleo? Rosa Mexicano?

I'm so sorry to hear about Sushi Ko. It used to be head and shoulders above the rest.

I still like Old Ebbitt. And 1789 if someone else is paying, but otherwise...
