What Restaurent Has Been in D.C. Forever And Is Still Worth a Visit?

Cactus Cantina and Cafe Deluxe have both been on Wisconsin since at least early/mid 90s, when I moved there. As for whether they're worth a visit, that depends....

Both newcomers in my book! Cactus Cantina was the new place to go when you didn't want to wait an hour at Rio Grande. Of course now it's better than Rio Grande.

Both newcomers in my book! Cactus Cantina was the new place to go when you didn't want to wait an hour at Rio Grande. Of course now it's better than Rio Grande.

And don't they call it something else now? Julio's or something?

I have never understood the popularity of Cactus Cantina. Loud, bad food, poor service? Can anyone tell me why I should go there?

This is just over the DC line, but the place that is tried and true is Parkway Deli.

If Parkway were closer, I'd be fatter.

Are you kidding? I moved to Adams Morgan in 1991 and could never understand how that place stayed in business. Friends and I dubbed it "Pasta Waita" because either they were never open or when they were open, you waited at least 45 minutes for a bowl of pasta.

Yes, Uncle Julio's. Dumb name. Bad food. But when it first opened, over on
Cordell, it was quite the novelty. Tex mex and frozen margaritas were exciting. And the food, at least to my younger self, was really good.
