ClearBlue Fertility monitor showes Peak Fertility on days 16/17/High Fertility days 18/19. Is it OK?

Anonymous
Hello. I am using the ClearBlue Fertility monitor for the first time. According to the instruction booklet, High Fertility (2 bars) should come before Peak Fertility (3 bars when egg is released). However, the monitor indicated I was directly on Peak Fertility on days 16 and 17 and on High Fertility on days 18 and 19! Is this OK? My cycle is 28 days, is it too late to ovulate on days 16 and 17? Is there any thing I can do/take to help me ovulate before day 14? Also, I had a very low cervical mucus level on days 14 and 16 and a high level on days 18 and 19. Is this OK?

1. How many months have you been using your monitor? It gets more precise the more you use it.

2. Are you charting? Has this been the case over a few cycles or just this one? Everyone can have an off cycle.

3. If you are O'ing on day 18, you should be ok -- you need about 10 days for your luteal phase minimum to support a new pregnancy.

If I were you, I would chart (I like Fertility Friend online) and see if this is a recurring trend in your cycles. Then you can take your charts to an RE if need be. GL!

1- This was the first month I used the monitor.

2- No I have never used the charting before. But, it is a good suggestion to use it and share it with my RE. I don't know if this has been the case before since I started using the monitor this month.

3- My acupuncturist looked at this data and said I ovulate late and my luteal phase is too short to support a pregnancy. She said the norm is to ovulate on day 14 or before to have a longer luteal phase. BK

I have several friends who have had success with the monitor, and hope that you will as well. If I remember correctly, I think that the instructions for the monitor say that it is automatically programmed to show two high fertility days after you hit your peak, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If nothing else, it is good to keep track of your cycles and to know that you are trying at exactly the right time. If you end up having to talk to your OBGYN or an RE, then you can share what you have learned from the monitor with them. FWIW, when I was trying my OBGYN suggested trying every other day between days 10 and 20 of my cycle, and I also had a regular 28-29 day cycle. After using the monitor a few times I found that it was stressing me out and putting too much pressure on those "peak" days, so I stopped using it.

It automatically gives you one peak and one high after the first peak. Since its your first month, it might be trying to figure your cycle out.
It's possible that you ovulate on day 16 or 17. I have a 12 day luteal phase. That's fine.

I would not necessarily go by the word of an acupuncturist over the author of TCoYF or an RE. I have always read that it's shorter than 10 days that make for worrisome luteal phases.

The norm may be a 14 day luteal phase, but that doesn't mean that you must have exactly that length to support a healthy pregnancy. And the 28-day cycle is not even the most common length of cycle! Most women fall above or below that. Heck, the average cycle is actually 29 days, but for some reason there's this myth that it's 28. Plus, anything from 15 to 45 days can be in the range of normal. I'd do a few more months of monitoring and get a good idea of where you are before you worry.

You don't need to ovulate before day 14. I got high's days 12-14, peak days 15 and 16, then high again for 17. Sounds like your peaks are close to mine. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant.

Keep using the monitor as it will get more precise next month (if you're not pregnant!). I suggest getting a basal body thermometer and temping along with using the monitor. Google basal temperature charts, print one out, take your temp each morning around the same time and record the numbers. It will start showing a pattern.

Your temp will raise a bit directly following ovulation then stay raised until your period starts. So, it won't help you know when to "go for it", but it will help you to be sure your cycles are healthy and also to to see if the monitor is coiniciding with the (slight) temp rise after ovulation.

Good luck!

Keep using it - the first month is often wonky for people.

I ovulated around day 20 with a 30 day cycle. Got pregnant. A 10 day luteal phase isn't a deal breaker.

The second time, same thing. Interestingly, I started using progesterone supplements (for fertility treatments unrelated to my luteal phase) and found it moved up my ovulation to day 15. This was all tracked by temperatures.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. After how many months of using the monitor you got pregnant?

Thank you. I got pregnant the 3rd month of using it.

The monitor automatically shows high fertility after peak fertility, since the egg is thought to have been released but still viable. Good luck.

Hello,

I am new to this community. A friend gave me a Clear Blue Fertility Monitor and this is my first month using it. I am also using Clomid due to irregular ovulation. I know that the manual says that I may get inaccurate information while using Clomid but I wanted to check to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I had highs beginning on day 7 all the way through 16, days 17 & 18 I had a peak. The continued to get high readings for days 19-21 and down to low 22, 23. The friend of mine that gave the monitor to me got pregnant using it the first month and told me that she had high readings the entire month and no peak. My question is, is it a bad sign that my readings have gone down to low or does this not indicate anything?

Thanks!!
Lindsay

You have ovulated. Thus, you are no longer fertile at the moment. In a normal cycle, you should have lows, then highs, then a peak, and then back to highs and then lows or directly back to lows. It is just like any other cycle...
