FCPS TJ Class of 2024 Press Release - Buried; AA Admits "TS" to Mention

It’s a good time to rectify wrongs, whether they occurred 400 years ago or 35 years ago.

So are McLean and Langley parents now on board with redistricting to have more representative schools?

This is exactly what is wrong with this discussion. There are some wrongs which are plain Wrong. And others, where people try to piggy back their individual misgiving as a 400 year wrong. That is just plain immoral.

AAP centers should be 25% blacks and all high schools in fcps should be at least 25% blacks.

You know these hypocrites only want to talk about TJ when it is more important to have a strong foundation in grades 3 to 8 and thus discrimination/bias in the AAP selection process is more important than TJ. Bunch of hypocrites like the NIMBY people.

Anytime anybody mentions diversifying Langley or McLean or AAP, deafening silence.

Mathmaticaly wouldn't that be difficult? Blacks are what percent of the students in FCPS?

Really? I did not know that. Where did you find that; I'm very skeptical.

Yes - redistricting and transportation. If there is one thing TJ demonstrates, parents and students are willing to accept long bus rides (Loudoun County!) to take advantage of better educational opportunities.

Busing would be the way to achieve this.

If my kids cannot learn, nobody should learn!!

Arbitrary quotas will either result in many kids drop out after freshman year or result in school standards being diluted (as the administration strives to retain these kids). There should be a concerted attempt at the elementary level to get AA kids interested in STEM.
I agree that the issue is not with TJ, but with education that a child receives in elementary and middle schools and from their family. However, why should we force anybody to get interested in STEM, especially children of one particular race? I have 2 kids - one loves art and another one loves math, and their passions were obvious by the age of 7. If you tried to get my art oriented DD interested in STEM and TJ, she’d be so miserable and sad. It would make more sense to provide additional help and resources to AA and Hispanic elementary age kids who have already demonstrated interest and desire to learn math or science.
