Just wanted to thank EyeCandyOP - I have been looking for light fixtures & didn't know where to start. I really like Shades of Light a lot (many of their options) & hadn't heard of it at all. Style = transitional. Much appreciated! Also loving this thread - I agree with a PP that you could monetize this skill by having clients who want to DIY rather than hire a designer but could use your advising. Such a gift!

I have a new one for you! We have a large downstairs family room - completely open, but different spaces (couch/tv area, play area, bar). I'm struggling to give the bar definition from the rest. Here are the details: it shares a long wall with another part of the basement, but I'd like to separate the two. It has an L shaped bar counter, big enough for two stools on one side and 3-4 on the other. The far end is the glass door to the walk out backyard. Everything is basic grade white/ivory. I'd love to incorporate some cool, masculine elements to the walls to display all our cool bar glasses acquired overseas. Maybe some cool and trendy lights w/ the light bulbs you see in speak easy-type places? I'm wondering if we could do some wood paneling on the front of the bar (under the countertops) to distinguish it somehow?

Hello, friends! I'm going to work on some requests this morning.

Still waiting for the poster whose son is going to college to chime in on what they want to do with that bedroom. Just give me some ideas about function (guest room, living space, office) and some colors or features you're interested in seeing.

Also wondering if the poster who wrote about light fixtures is looking for a certain room (foyer, dining, kitchen, etc). Any finishes/colors you love or want to stay away from?

Here is one for you. My DS is now a teen, and he wants to update his bedroom. But he loves the bright yellow walls I painted when he was four and his favorite color was a sort of bright sunshine yellow. He doesn't want that to change. The examples of sunshine yellow I have found have tended to be little kid rooms, not teens. I am trying to figure out how to make it more teen than little kid.

EyeCandyOP, I'd love to see some glamorous black and white kitchens. I like modern but am open to any style, as long as it's black and white and glamorous. Nothing understated please

In case it matters, we'll keep the range on one wall with the fridge on the adjacent wall. Another opening to another hallway to the right of the fridge. To the left of wall w/ range is a hallway to other rooms, including a pantry. Sink is on other side of that opening to the hallway (adjacent to wall with range). Directly across from the range will be a long island with bar stools on the far side. We're keeping our wood floors since they match the flooring on the rest of the main floor (but w'ell probably have the floors on the whole main floor refinished).

I have a new one for you. I need to update my late-80s sunken living room. It’s sunken about half a story (so three steps down) and has a pony wall on one side, a ton of windows, high ceilings with wood on them, and a brick fireplace. All the trim in the house is a warm medium brown. If I can get away with not raising the living room (it’s above an actual basement so would be pricey) and repainting all the trim it would be lovely. My googling tells me sunken living rooms might be making a comeback so hopefully there are some good options.

My style is more traditional but the house is contemporary so I’m having a hard time. Thanks in advance and thank you for the best thread ever!
