Is Summer Residential Governor’s Schools a big deal?

Thanks for all of the info! Were most of the kids who attended taking AP Latin? The application only requires finishing Latin 2, but it seems like the STAMP test would be much easier as a more advanced Latin student.

If I remember correctly, most of the students who were rising seniors had taken AP or IB Latin, while the students who were rising juniors likely would not have taken AP Latin yet. But I'd guesstimate that maybe only a quarter of the students who attended were rising juniors.

How optimistic are we that decisions will be out next week? (The World Language guide has decisions by April 15 and admin notified approximately one week earlier but allowed to share info with the kids.) DC’s gifted coordinator did not seem optimistic they will find out before the students.

Not Very.....I'm expecting a long a painful wait and will be pleasantly surprised if we hear on time. LOL.

Sigh… trying to be optimistic here but this is wise

If anyone hears anything early, please let us know. Then we can ask our schools, since they do hear before families.

Good luck! They were late last year. Hope they do better this year.

Summer Residential Governor’s Schools? Will it help college application? Thank you

Yes. Mine attended a program after being nominated by the school and then taking a test/writing essays. Not all have a test. The acceptance rate from the nominees across the state is around 10% depending on the area. It is a big deal just to be nominated by the high school, but to get accepted is meaningful academic boost on an application. List it under awards. Kid's group from Gov School had impressive success in the college admission process.

Nothing yet, but the World Language timeline sounds like schools will find out today or tomorrow. I hope someone posts that their school let them know soon!
