Your jealousy is showing. DCUMers don’t represent the average American. They are far superior.

Dcum is the natural habitat of social darwinists

Ya someone posted in another thread with a $1M NW they’re “low middle class” lmao (and I know $1M isn’t what it used to be but come on)

These new figures seem so much higher than those from 6 years ago. Why, I wonder?

Current HHI around $500K (just me), DH is a tech founder on an extended sabbatical with plans to start a new company

$1.3M in tax advantaged 401K, Roth IRA, HSA,
$4M taxable brokerage investments
$1.1M home equity
$200K crypto (started at $20K)
$200K cash/gold coins
$100K art (conservative estimate)
$100K in a donor-advised fund that we donate $10-20K from per year

Also have investments in 5 illiquid private companies that we currently discount to $0 but could be worth something someday.

HHI $500k (slow growth over time but we’ve reached the top)
NW without house and any college savings $4.2 m

We’ve been married for over 20 years and have been consistently investing. It’s amazing to see how much things have grown since we started out

45 yr old single mom of one 15 yr old. $0 in college savings and appr. $100k in a 403b (I’m a teacher so I’ll receive a pension). $0 in other savings but hopefully I’ll save a little bit in the next few years before college.

General rule of thumb is 3x gross hhi in retirement / investments at 40. You do the math.

No. The bull stock market. VTI (the index uses the entire market) is up 100% over last five years.

I believe the rule of thumb is 3xsalary by age 40 and 6xsalary by age 50. We are pushing 50 and are right at the 6.5x mark (not including home equity). So I guess we are on track. Not sure if we'll be able to keep our jobs for the next 10 years. If we do, getting to 8x seems like a conservative estimate.

Me: $3m; Him: IDK, but at least $3m; Joint: $2m; combined 529 plans for 2 kids: $505k. I have it listed as hers, his, and ours because we both have investment and business interests that predated our marriage that have continued to grow separately.
