Spit take..... NP here. You are the antithesis of an ally if you refer to "pronoun police" and refer to a transgender woman as still a male. That's the very definition of NOT AN ALLY. |
I agree with you, last poster. |

Is it just me, or does she look a bit like Mariska Hargitay? |
I agree with the statement that Bruce will always be a male. It's like when the media was hyping up the "Pregnant Man" nonsense. WTF there was never a pregnant man. He is biologically a woman who lives his life as a man...except when it comes to being pregnant/giving birth. |
Its all so superficial and vain and utterly vile. I agree its another form of dysmorphia. |
Maybe the poster is a supporter and ally of LGB, but not T. I really don't think you have to be a supporter of T, especially if you believe it to be a mental illness. |
Biologically her sex is male. Her gender is female. I was pointing out that being the pronoun police does nothing to garner tolerance as some people will still see her as male - which biologically she is. Remember sex is different from gender. So ... whatever you want to believe about me is fine but you are wrong. |
People here really need to learn to follow a conversation thread Never said it was a mental illness. |
NP. Interesting. So where does the pronoun come into play anymore? Trying to think of when we use pronoun re: sex but not necessarily gender .... |
If those of you who are trans-friendly want to help your cause (not just on DCUM; I'm seeing this everywhere) cool it with the lecturing people on using "dead names," incorrect pronouns, etc.
You can jump up and down all you want, but I'm still calling him Bruce Jenner (and "him."). Go ahead and come back with any smarmy retort you wish, but it's not going to change how many of us feel and speak about this non-issue. |
And this is why I was trying to explain this upthread. That being the pronoun police does nothing to educate and bring tolerance to the transgender community. |
medical records for one |
Question for pp. I am not sure if this has been covered yet, but aren't people born with this? Didn't Bruce know he was different at a very young age? How was he able to marry and have children knowing that he wanted to be female. How was he able to love and make love to a woman when he wanted to be one himself? He dressed like a man, most transgender a I know want to dress the opposite. It just seems like this came on "all of a sudden". Why after 60 years? Why not sooner? |
Here's the deal:
It's courageous when Joe Smith transitions to Jane and overcomes all obstacles thrown her way. It's not all that heroic when Bruce transitions very publicly to Caitlyn given that the media is salivating for someone to say something remotely negative so they can pounce on it. As such, Bruce enjoyed an unprecedented and global support replete with positive media coverage, a gajillion supportive tweets, and the title of hero. I'm happy for Caitlyn, but her story is not the norm. And she really hasn't had to overcome any adversity. Her transition was easy given her wealth, status and the universal support she has received. They are projecting 500 million in future earnings for her. She's fine. But she's not a hero. She's lucky. |
