So far Brearley has 5 going to Harvard, and the decisions are still coming in on the instagram account (they post about one a day).

So I guess the new admin from some random upstate school isn’t doing such a bad job 🤷🏻‍♀️

They’d have gotten in from Jackson MS High too. Their TT had nothing to do with it. Rich parents did.

NP. If that's true, then a new admin would be irrelevant to college matriculation and there is really no need to be "curious how that works out in the next 5-10." That poster trying to speculate that Brearley's stats may decline can't have it both ways. And again, there are dozens (hundreds?) of rich parents of graduating kids in every private school in the city. Yet very few of those schools have stats like these. So there is no way it is just rich parents. The TTs are TTs for a reason. Otherwise, all of those schools would have the same reputations and all would have similar college matriculations. And they don't.

There’s a huge difference between attracting a restaurant chain owner or a new money hedge funder with a 50mm net worth v. an established nine figure family with several buildings at Harvard. The latter goes to Brearley. The former goes to Dwight or HM then Cornell. So long as the headmaster attracts rich connected families it’s all fine.

Agree to disagree. There are rich kids with legacy across all these TT and yet B manages to outperform.
Just to add, I’ve spent a lot of time interviewing kids at a number of specialized public schools for HYP admissions and it made me realize that TT private schools help these kids become more self-aware and articulate than others. It is impressive.

You don’t seem to understand. An eight figure donor, a squash player the coach wants, and a minority with a 1500 will almost certainly get into Harvard. These are the majority of TTs exmissions to HYPS. All B did was accept more of these families and draw from this pipeline. There are fewer of them at other schools. And the idea that Dwight has them in any appreciable numbers is laughable, a double Harvard legacy is too smart to pay for a school like that.

What do you mean pay for a school like that? Are you saying they’d rather pay for Brearley? That Brearley is somehow more attractive to the applicants? And why would that be? If they can get in from anywhere, why go to Brearley specifically?

A couple smart and connected enough to go to Harvard isn’t sending their kid to Dwight. Because it’s full of idiots. Because B sounds good at dinner parties and has a more August history. B didn’t do anything to get kids into HYPS, do you think their counselor has some crazy connections or ability to advocate? What is the secret sauce you think is there?

They’re top students because they’re screened and then taught by one of the best schools in the country. Not sure why you keep skipping that part as if all the students have is rich parents. And please don’t call children idiots. It’s very unbecoming and ruins whatever small amount of credibility you might have. Can’t believe someone on a mother’s board would do that.

Not to nitpick but the constant squash references are sad. Go to any squash tournament and enjoy the bewildered looks on the tiger parents of Lazlo and Olive when they see the truly talented kids, compounded by the fact that there are limited slots and many come from abroad.

Being intelligent and receiving an incredible education doesn’t lead to the numbers some of the TTs post. It is the parents’ connections and
Leveraging FGLI. Plenty of amazing educators can be found across the country at top privates in other cities.

Some children are idiots. Do you dispute that? Or do you think the ones who end up with 1200 SATs were hit on the head at age 8 and everything was dandy until then?

If you think some of the schools don’t import top Egyptian and Pakistani players at the HS level you are wrong. Although this is more common at boarding schools.

Who said anything about old money? The richest people, those who buy their way into HYPS, are first and second generation wealth.

All kids are brilliant and destined for genius-level academic performance. Thank you for clarifying your stance.
