+1000 All the parents want stability and proximity. Of course that is what is easier for our families. Taylor just threw up his hands and said oh well I guess nobody wants to balance demographics. But our school system is not and should not be a direct democracy. These are complex issues and final.decisions should be made by people who are looking at the big picture, not based on squeaky wheels and provincialism. Our elected officials who are supposed to represent the people agreed on a policy that demands the consideration of demographics. There are good reasons for this that are based in real research involving real kids in Montgomery County. |
| Woodward is a completely NEW school. It belongs to VM just as much as WW, Luxmanor, Farmland, etc. What a great start to community building… I hope the parents of Woodward can move past this. Either way, the kids will be fine and find community for themselves. |
Yes. This is not a kind group of people. |
| New VM Parent here...on a school parent What's Ap chat we all have now heard what is going on this thread since it was sent around. We strongly support our kids going to Woodward and support the Superintendent's recommendation. |
| I m finding this whole thread utterly impossible to follow, in part because people can’t use quotes properly but also because people seem to be hinting at a lot of inside baseball. It’s very confusing for people who don’t follow all this as a micro level. |
All taxpayers paid for Woodward and Crown. They don't "belong" to any one part of the county anymore than WJ does. |
If you want Woodward, you all better email the BOE. Julie Yang from the BOE is actively working on a new plan with the Farmland people to even out the FARMS numbers. |
Eh, don't believe this. Too risky... She's checked out. Running for County Council. Better to just rubber stamp than rock the boat at this point. |
I am telling everyone I know not to vote for her or Silvestre |
+1. Yang was once an active BOE member. No longer. She will do whatever Taylor tells her to do. |
Julie Yang came to Viers Mill last year after MCEA brought up concerns about special ed students not getting the proper support due to lack of staffing allocations. She's good at listening. And then... not doing anything else. So enjoy those conversations, Farmland, because that's all you'll have. And is she "working with the Farmland people" the same way Farmland is "working with" the VM community? Because that would basically mean Farmland saying "do this" and the other saying "nah bro we good." |
+1 "I want this or I want that" shouldn't be the reason to decide boundaries. There are very good reasons to keep 4 factors in FAA policies. It benefits students. Change is scary for many families but change is going to happen anyway. It's best to make changes which benefits students. Just talking about 4 factors but then simply ignoring it seems wrong. |
Just repeating what my Farmland friend told me. |
|
I wonder what part of GP and/or KP they will propose trading for VM.
Hopefully this is just a vocal minority and VM will feel at home at Woodward. |
| VM parents strongly support Taylor's plan. We want Woodward, not WJ. |
