Well, let's be honest: there are a lot more UVA rejects at Tech than there are Tech rejects at UVA.

Sure there are. But there are also more UVA rejects at Tech than vice-versa.

Maybe to you. My guess is they get a record number of applications this year. They won’t miss your kid.

Record number of applications because they are not requiring essays. Surely you know this!

With AI, I suspect that in five years or less most schools will no longer require supplemental essays and may also altogether drop the personal essay.

WRong. https://www.ivycoach.com/the-ivy-coach-blog/college-essays/university-of-virginia-essay-prompts/.

LOL okay you are right. The nursing school has an essay. No one else does though.

How are they going to know who the URM kids are?

I guess people will believe whatever they want.

NP. As far as “beliefs,”

- we can all agree the use of race as an admissions factor was outlawed, effective as of the June 2023 Supreme Court decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Students_for_Fair_Admissions_v._Harvard

Compliance with S.Ct. precedent is mandatory.

It would be nice (though naïve) to believe UVA decided to comply with the letter and spirit of the legal precedent.

However, subsequent investigations by the DOJ either revealed or were likely to reveal, UVA was resisting implementation of the new law, and still using race as a factor in admissions (and hiring) standards.

Were UVA not in violation, they would not have entered into the settlement (NOTE: I wrote settlement, not compact), with DOJ.

Believe what you want. I believe even after 2023, UVA was trying to do everything within its power to continue to discriminate against certain applicants on the basis of their skin color, until recently forced to reconsider by the DOJ.

Not really. Especially when so many VT kids were *also* accepted to UVA yet chose VT. That speaks volumes. But keep telling yourself whatever you need to.

I think this is a rare exception probably only in specific engineering majors. I don’t think there are “so many” who make this decision generally.

DP. I have two kids there right now who not only chose VT over UVA (and for liberal arts majors, not STEM) but who know quite a few others who did the same thing. Not sure why this would be surprising to you.

My Lord you dance around facts better than Trump.

No one is saying and has ever said that there aren’t plenty of Tech students who also got into UVA.

What’s being said is that there are more students at Tech who got rejected from UVA than there are students at UVA who got rejected from Tech.

Obviously many students in VA apply to both, obviously they don’t all get into both, and obviously if they’re rejected from one and not the other it’s more often UVA than Tech who is rejecting them

It’s not that complicated

With regard to the old “tech students should present their ID and rejection letter at the door” that is a Joke. A joke. Like the tech fans calling Scott stadium, “lane stadium north”. Joking happens with rivalries.
