On the lives, she said they can’t see race and religion either because they don’t use those. UVA has to produce data for the government about race, but they’re saying the admissions department can’t see it. I guess people will believe whatever they want.
NP. As far as “beliefs,” - we can all agree the use of race as an admissions factor was outlawed, effective as of the June 2023 Supreme Court decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Students_for_Fair_Admissions_v._Harvard Compliance with S.Ct. precedent is mandatory. It would be nice (though naïve) to believe UVA decided to comply with the letter and spirit of the legal precedent. However, subsequent investigations by the DOJ either revealed or were likely to reveal, UVA was resisting implementation of the new law, and still using race as a factor in admissions (and hiring) standards. Were UVA not in violation, they would not have entered into the settlement (NOTE: I wrote settlement, not compact), with DOJ. Believe what you want. I believe even after 2023, UVA was trying to do everything within its power to continue to discriminate against certain applicants on the basis of their skin color, until recently forced to reconsider by the DOJ.
