It’s not OK just because there’s some lazy cops out there. They don’t wanna take care of their mental health.

I’m also a police officer’s wife. I’ve read the book and I’m aware of the statistics.

It’s true that many officers see bad on a regular basis. My DH came home with a pretty horrifying story about a child just yesterday. The job can weigh on an officer’s heart.

And, since I know this, I am supportive. I don’t say “that’s their problem to solve.” It’s OUR problem to solve. I’m proud of him and his willingness to take others’ needs into his care.

People on this thread must think he runs around waving his gun in the air. The truth is he rarely touches it. He spends far more time helping families in crisis.

It’s a shame people want to judge him without knowing him (like the nasty posts I’m sure I’ll get for posting something positive about police).

You know what else is a shame? When cops choose to dump their psychological problems on an unsuspecting, law abiding public. I know what I'm talking about.

Oh gosh I agree with this. THAT would be the hardest part of the job for me. Social workers see similar too. I can't imagine how depressing it must be always seeing the worst society has to offer.

I've never disliked law enforcement. I feel safer when they're around actually (like at fairs, downtown on the national mall, concerts). I'm a petite white woman though- I'm sure men and other races have other views.

Armed staff could have stopped that much quicker. Maybe not teachers, most of them are mentally ill, but principals, maintenance, custodians, etc.

Police are mostly worthless for things like that. They stand around wondering what they should do. Rarely do they ever charge in and stop it.

It is the sense of self-grandiose I dislike. More roofers die each year than police and somehow they made it look like they are the only ones dies in the line of duty.

True. A logger is the most dangerous job in the world for fatalities. and about 70 other professions rank above a police officer. It's not a risky job at all, just a mentally and emotionally draining one I'd assume, which is partly why so many of them snap and murder citizens.

I’m still waiting to hear about a job that has more workers murdered than law enforcement.

Exactly. The manner of death is irrelevant. We need to stop trying to hold police accountable for citizen deaths. How those people died is irrelevant. It's the same as if they were hit by a garbage truck.

Police have the lowest overall I.Q. of any professional, second only to public school teachers.

Many departments have I.Q. limits on testing, where if an applicant exhibits too high of intelligence, they are not hired as a law enforcement officer.

Government wants obedient goons for cops, not intelligent people who assess situations, but just goons to force their agendas, and rake in money from the public.
