Either they weren’t wearing their seat belts or he was going really really fast. Bmws are very well made and they should have survived if they were wearing belts unless he was just flying. |
Driver smashed into a concrete wall. |
And reports are that speed was 100 mph. Since BMWs record that data, it won't be difficult to confirm that. |
We need to ban walls. |
Sounds like the driver is also in critical condition? |
The parents who bought their son the BMW, had access to the same information that you have access to, boys and young men are dimwits who shouldn't have access to such things. As to the dead kids, that sucks, I feel bad for their families 100%. Glad it wasn't my kid. But the parents and the young man who chose to speed and kill his friends have a lot to feel guilty about for the rest of their lives. |
Also, was there another fatal car crash involving South County HS students or is this a garble: https://atlanticmedia.site/south-county-high-school-car-accident/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKK-i5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFFWDdDa1Y4QnhzSW9VQ3ozAR4r1TRSVPhj2Y2REaP91_9NTFJh_tjtJ3OfMhjsSkhMYXmZuUqar6c-xnJfZQ_aem_DaB7ENSffOw7Q4MjS5ucYg? |
I still remember the middle school shop videos that were were shown in order to encourage our paying attention when using the power tools... nail through the eye, hand impaled by drill press. To this day I exercise caution. I'm almost certain we did the same with drivers ed, video's of traffic fatalities, back in HS in the 80s. I'm all for showing grim pictures of the aftermath and consequences to my kids when they get ready to drive. It worked for me, but then again I was a teen girl, and not a boy so maybe I just had a natural instinct to drive cautiously and think things through even as a teen. |
at 100 mph. I don't care how many safety features you have, or how sturdy your car is-- Do you know what happens to your brain when it slams against your skull at even 70-80mph crashes? 100mph, let's just say it might be better to have died on impact. |
Virginia still requires kids and a parent watch the scary video before allowing them to get a license. Had to do it with my teen. |
People, put a Vyncs in your kid’s car and let them know you can see their speed. Take their keys of they’re being reckless. Driving is a privilege. You are the adult. |
Ban concrete walls. Do it for the children. Especially the really stupid ones who drive too fast in sport sedans their parents gave them. We must save these kids. They’re our best and brightest. |
It is tragic, and my nightmare. My son went to prom with friends last night and did pics at the Lincoln Memorial and had dinner in DC, then drove back up to Gaithersburg. He got in around 3am. And of course I worried. And of course we've had conversations about sober driving, designated driver, and more. But it is still a very rare thing to happen. Low incidence/high consequence. We won't be able to prevent them all. And it's not nasty to mention the type of car. My son's friends all wanted to rent high performance vehicles for prom, to show off. That's one place parents can easily say no. Definitely something to be aware of. |
Nobody can predict when it will be our last day on earth. |
Not only the forces working on the brain in a high speed collision, but it is also very possible that a person can suffer atlanto-occipital dislocation - in laymen's terms internal decapitation - which can quickly lead to death because the brain stem is often damaged and that is what controls breathing and heart function. |
