They are spending their money on his 2 dollar bills |
No, I pulled out a $100,000 HELOC and shorted the market with triggers at 10:30 am. Please help me, I trusted you people!!! |
The markets are naively thinking his Treasury secretary will talk him out of it. Lol |
When you bid on a house that’s been on the market for a year do you bid exactly the ask or do you bid 10-20% down because you have the advantage as the buyer in that situation? America can afford to play hardball with all these countries because at the end of the day they’re in a lot worse situation than us if we put tariffs on their goods and limit access to our consumers, not the other way around. I thought this was common sense… |
The S&P is up a mere 10 points. Is that “soaring”? Yes or no. |
What does anything you listed have to do with business acumen? |
You have to remind yourself that you’re arguing with people who have never closed a deal in their lives, who have no idea they’re getting swindled when they gladly pay a GC $75,000 for a full bath reno. Having a discussion about negotiation tactics with them is a fool’s errand. |
Marketing is probably the biggest component of creating a strong brand / business. Trump is a great marketer, which is why people around the world knew who he was before he was president. Duh. |
Since you’re so smart, can you explain how this will lower prices? Thx. |
Imports from Mexico (2023): $480.05 billion
Imports from Canada (2023): $429.60 billion According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were approximately 128.6 million households in the United States in 2023. Additional taxes per U.S. household due to a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada is estimated at approximately $1,769.80. So they'll be paying nearly $2k more in taxes per household. Income Group: Bottom 50% Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) Range: Up to $46,637 Average AGI: $19,192 Average Tax Rate: 3.3% Average Tax Paid: $633 Income Group: 50th to 90th Percentile AGI Range: $46,637 to $174,000 Average AGI: $85,853 Average Tax Rate: 8.1% Average Tax Paid: $6,954 So, about 80% of all tax-paying households should see a significant tax increase. |
How will marketing make tariffs lower prices? |
Ok genius. The point of hardball negotiation is to get a concession. What, exactly, are we trying to get from Canada? His Majesty’s tweet mentioned stemming the flow of drugs and immigrants from Canada. Neither is remotely a front line issue for the US. In fact, by most accounts the flow of drugs is the other direction, from the US into Canada. So again… what strategic concession (trade or otherwise) are we trying to wrangle from Canada? If there isn’t one, then it’s just a petulant old man throwing bricks at our allies because he can. |
Which will CRUSH his voters. But since there won't be anymore elections, they will just have to live with it. |
Trump spent the last 6 months of his campaign extolling the virtue of tariffs. He has announced on his social media platform the imposition of tariffs on day one. YOU are the only one calling it a "negotiation tactic" |
There is no concession for which he's negotiating. Trump thoroughly believes that tariffs are paid to the US Treasury - that's it. |
